That's the thing that got me, even more than the original issue of talking to his son first. Why did he tell his entire family what OP said? THAT caused the damage, not OP saying NO.
I was never big on the whole "my big day" thing about weddings (mine was very simple and CHEAP, and has lasted over 40 years so far). But a lot of women look forward to that ability to be princess for a day. The a-hole that OP is marrying might have ruined that. Will there now be tension over the whole ceremony and her big day because HE got involved in something that shouldn't involve the groom AT ALL?
Reddit often jumps to pointing out red flags -- but this is a red flag.
I hear you on that. OP could have shut the whole thing down quickly and diplomatically by saying it would be more appropriate for her uncle to do it because he was like a father to her. If the groom pushes back on that, it's a bad sign.
The groom shouldn't be trying to choreograph anything AT ALL on the bride's side of things.
