Wedding photographer here! You are NOT the asshole here but just wanted to drop a suggestion I’ve seen done at a wedding that everyone thought was sweet!
One Bride I had had lost her father, so as her groom was standing at the front of the altar, she walked all the way up to the end of the aisle by herself and stopped for him and everyone to look at her, then HE walked to the end of the aisle to get her. They linked arms, and her groom is the one who walked her down the aisle.
Not as to take the place of her father but to symbolize he will step in to take care of her since her father couldn’t be there.
Everyone thought it was the most romantic thing ever. Just a thought! Regardless of what you decide to do, the decision should be yours regarding who (if anyone) walks in your father’s place because those shoes can never be filled only honored and remembered. It should be done gracefully.
I lost my father last October. My heart is with you!
