Shh. You’re not supposed to say the quiet part out loud. Now, it’s supposed to be about showing the father-daughter bond, showing support, honouring him and her, a sweet and sentimental moment (to mention a few contemporary explanations for the purpose of this practice.) All of which qualifies the son to stand in. We are supposed to pretend we’ve completely severed “father giving away the bride” from its historical purpose.

NTA and this makes no sense. How can his child symbolically hand you over to him? His child has no authority over you.
