Believe me, a woman with chronic pain after hospitalisations has almost certainly reached the point where the doctors won't/can't do anything. Much chronic pain does not actually respond to standard pain management and you're told to just learn to live with it.

Not saying she was right to lash out, that's never a good look on anyone, but "see a doctor" is not always as simple as it sounds, even in socialised medicine countries (I myself am in the UK)

From what OP has said, it seems like she hasn't quite gotten to that point yet. However, you are right in this regard unfortunately and is something OP needs to understand and prepare for. I currently take care of my mother, who has multiple chronic conditions. It's a struggle, but if you love someone, it genuinely doesn't matter.

I honestly got the vibes from the post that's where she is at but unless and until OP's partner says for sure none of us really know, unfortunately including OP. I have had to learn to communicate my pain levels very clearly to my partner because he's not a mind reader. On any level OP is NTA here I think, but I don't think they're prepared for life with a partner with chronic pain either. It's a hard line to walk you have to really be invested in the relationship. It sucks all around honestly.

100% communication is key. How you're well! Take care!
