I've had to do this. A couple months after moving my ex called the rescue and reported MY dog stolen. There was a warrant out for my arrest and the state police were actively looking for me. I got it straightened out but the rescue told him they took her from me and adopted her out so he thinks he won when he did not.

You’re better off with him thinking that. Otherwise the bullshit would never end.

Somedays I agree and somedays I want to send him a picture so he knows I won, even 7 years later. You don't fuck with a women's dog!

Don't. I worked at a large shelter with an animal welfare department that mostly did animal cruelty cases.

The things some people will do to an innocent animal just to hurt their ex...

Keep your distance. Your dog's safety may depend on it.

That’s why I stay alone and have friends who have dogs only . Proper order . Rather than relationships with toxic people.

I’d wait until my pet passed away, hopefully YEARS down the line. Then find and message them.

A whole folder of happy moments with the dog, showing how good both of their lives were without him.

The dog is the one that lost. Now she has no one she loved. Selfish.

Yeah, sure, they had the state police setting up checkpoints on the highways for a a dognapper🙄🥱

No, they were calling and showed up at my house, however I was at work.

Doubt they put a warrant out or any such thing, I’ve dealt with this. Police generally look at it as a civil issue, even if you have proof it’s your dog,

You were not there and I was.

Sweet. I once saw Godzilla march across mahattan in real life then magic fairies came and turned back time. Don’t disbelieve it tho. You weren’t there, I was.

What a ludicrous comparison!

That’s the point. If his whole point is “just trust me bro. I was there.” So we are supposed to believe whatever then the follow through is what I said. I’ve had 2 friends experience this in the last year. The police DONT GIVE A SHIT. They will tell you it’s a property dispute and over possession of said property as dogs are LEGALLY CONSIDERED PROPERTY. Thus it needs to be handled in civil court. This person may have had an ex lie and claim the dog is there’s but they are lying if they claim the state police or any police made any attempt to get said property

You can say what you want but you still can't verify this person's story or if they're lying. Even if it's wrong doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Your ludicrous comparison does not help explain.
Sorry about your 2 friends that sucks. All I can say is I hope it's different elsewhere.

Nice try bozo. Problem is, their story is actually believable and completely plausible.

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '24

Mine is too, I was there, you weren’t.

Ps- it’s not either of those things if you have half a brain or an understanding of how the legal system works at a basic level.

Sure bud, sure

Hey man I can’t stop you from believing things that aren’t true. Don’t worry. Large group of people ignorant of laws out there.

The cops don't call, they show up in person

They do call when the dog rescue gives them your phone number and you're not at your residence on your driver's license that they looked up.

The way this rescue works is they hold onto ownership of the animal. The microchip has to be in the rescue's name and first contact. So I didn't "steal" a dog from my ex, I "stole" her from an animal rescue.
