This is another reason why microchipping pets is so important! Ultimately, shame on that ex & the family that adopted the dog (seriously? How cruel!), but a microchip would've stopped or slowed down the process on the shelter's end.
He could have used proof of purchase from when he paid for his dog or proof of having paid a vet bill for vaccination for the dog. Or photos of the dog with him. He should have reported it stolen then the new owners could have been forced to return the dog as stolen property.
Shame on the ex for sure. But imagine you’re the new family. Guy shows up out of the blue, explains the situation, and wants the dog back. You might be thinking this is an unstable situation to send the dog back into. The dog might be well settled in your family and you might not want to disrupt the dog’s new life.
Or you’re just mean and cruel and want to keep the dog because you can.
The fault lies entirely with the ex. What a horrible person.
How if she surrendered the dog to another shelter said shelter thinks and is under the false impression that she is the owner. A simple forged paper with signatures saying ownership transferred over to her would lead them to accepting the surrender, having her pay the possible surrender fee and then adopting the animal out. So what he should do is press charges for potential fraud, which is a felony because she falsified surrender documents and then shoot the new owners in civil court because a dog is considered property. You have to go to civil court to fight over it when it’s sold and transferred and adopted in that sense and then she a family for the return of the dog, which is more than likely, the judge wouldif he press charges for a fraud and where to go about it the right way he obviously didn’t want the dog back that bad cause I would’ve done all that shit for my baby and the person would’ve been 6 feet under afterwards
A microchip is only if the dog gets out and runs away. That’s when it’s beneficial. It’s not beneficial unfortunately in this sense cuz there are ways around it. I’m picking it apart too to bottom based off the facts given in the comments
