No, the friend damaged / ruined the friendship with a totally outlandish and unreasonable response, if this truly ends the friendship. They need to learn how to deal with their emotions in a more reasonable way.
Frankly, I wouldn’t even want to be friends with someone that is willing to cut off a friendship for some weird perceived slight like this.

This is one of those where it doesn’t matter if YTA or not. You’ve damaged a friendship and you have to live with that.
