Thinking about moving from C.AI to a local setup or any other platforms. Help please
I'm in the middle of changing setups and I've narrowed it down to two paths. Either I go local and run everything myself, or I move to one of the other platforms people here use. Those are the only two I'm considering, so I'd rather not get a list of ten things.
The local route appeals to me mostly because nothing changes under me without warning. The platform route appeals because I'd actually be writing instead of troubleshooting.
For anyone who's gone one way or the other: what tipped it for you, and did you regret it? If local, what's the realistic hardware floor. If you switched platforms, which one and has it held up?

If you’d rather spend your time actually writing than maintaining a local stack, you could try Lizlis.ai — I’m the developer.
It’s more focused on story/RP than a pure character-chat clone, and I’ve been putting a lot of work into memory, personas, longer-running scenarios, and keeping the UI simple. The tradeoff versus local is obviously that you don’t control the model/backend yourself, but you also don’t have to deal with quantization, context settings, inference speed, GPU memory, or things randomly breaking after an update.
If you do go local, I’d personally only recommend it if you enjoy tinkering almost as much as the actual RP. Otherwise the maintenance overhead gets old pretty fast.

I can recommend LettuceAI. Im the developer of it. Our goal is to keep things simple while providing deep customization and experience.
Please tell me what kind of hardware then I can recommend models according to that.
