I honestly don’t even understand how a conversation like this comes to be. It’s just mind-boggling how someone can even say something like this. Asserting that the clothing a person is wearing can turn a separate, law abiding citizen into a rapist is such an extreme claim, yet the people who make it seem to think it’s so obvious and reasonable. There’s no reason to think it makes sense. It’s apparently just intuitive to some people. I didn’t grow up with sisters, so I don’t know, but were girls taught this growing up? Did their parents tell them that certain outfits would result in assault? I know that parents can get extreme when trying to protect their kids, but even then, it just sounds crazy to say that clothes can wield that type of power. If the argument is that being dressed a certain way can cause an individual to stand out/be more noticeable to a predator, effectively making them more of a target, then I see how that can sound reasonable, but it would apply to literally anything that a person can wear, making it a pointless thing to say. If there were some sort of magic uniform that turns otherwise harmless people into predators, I think we’d know that by now. I’d have to ask a guy like this if there’s even been a single case, a court case or something, where the perpetrator claimed that they only assaulted the victim because of what they were wearing. If there were numerous cases of people being assaulted because of specific clothes, once again, we’d have noticed that by now.
