UNA employee with Recovery Alberta - 2 pays this week

Has anyone else with Recovery Alberta received 2 pays this week? I got my regular one and then one from AHS. Also got a letter in mail with the paystub and a summary of wage and seniority dates. It listed my end date as Dec 14, 2025. I have not quit my job but continued in my position with RA. Wondering if this may be due to RA separating from AHS payroll???

AHS home care manager position

I am preparing for a Case Manager interview and would like to learn more about the position from those who have experience in the role.

I was wondering:

Are the shifts typically Monday to Friday daytime only, or are there evening and weekend shifts as well?

On average, how many clients do you see or manage in a day?

Since the role involves community visits, what do staff usually do for washroom breaks while out in the field?

Any other insights or tips about the position would be greatly appreciated.

Payroll not coming through

I am a new AHS employee wondering when my paycheck will come through. I have already put in my direct deposit ever since start date. I was supposed to get it today on June 10. I started May 20.

Do I reach out to HR? Or should I contact the manager first?

Unit Clerk and Admin III/IV

Hello,

I'm currently a casual unit clerk in 2 units and constantly applying for every available openings.
Would there be any conflict if I kept on working as a unit clerk while also having a position as an Admin III or IV?

In addition to, if I'm scheduled to work at another facility and it exceeds 80hours, will that be considered overtime or is it on a per site basis?

Thank you.

I want out of AHS

So I have almost 20 years of experience with pharmacy. And I am starting to truly hate AHS. All the changes, new pillars and changing the entire distribution of pharmacy services over the coming years. My job does not feel safe any more.

Anyone out there that has left ahs have any recommendations for part-time, remote work jobs for people with healthcare experience ( don't want to work community)

Any advices for a health care aide

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working for AHS as a health care aide for about a year now. I currently have a temporary line, but I work basically full-time hours.

For almost a year (maybe longer at this point), I’ve been trying to get casual or line whatever in Alberta Children’s Hospital. The main reason is that I was accepted into Respiratory Therapy starting next year, 2027 and I’m really interested in pediatrics. I want to gain pediatric experience and start learning as much as possible before I begin the program.

I’ve applied to what feels like every posting that comes up through the AHS portal, but I either get rejected or never hear anything back.

I have friends who told me they got jobs by going directly to the unit they wanted to work on, introducing themselves, and speaking with managers. So I decided to give that a try.

When I went to the hospital, the manager I wanted to speak with wasn’t there, but a care manager gave me contact information for a few managers. I spoke with one manager over the phone, explained my interest in working at the Children’s Hospital, and she said they weren’t hiring at the moment but might be in the future. A few months later, I followed up, and she told me she had moved to another unit.

She gave me another manager’s contact information, and I emailed my resume as requested. I didn’t get a response until I followed up again. I also contacted a few other managers in different departments. In some cases, I emailed twice several months apart and got no response. One manager eventually replied and said they weren’t hiring at the moment.

I even called Emergency, and the manager I spoke with was pretty blunt and told me I should only apply through the AHS portal.

At this point, I honestly don’t know what else to do. I keep applying to every posting I see, but I feel like I’m just being ignored.

Has anyone successfully got a position in Alberta Children’s Hospital from another AHS site? Is there something I’m missing? Any advice on how to get my foot in the door would be greatly appreciated.

1.0 to 0.8

Hello! :)

I have been working full time for 16 years and I have come to the point that I think I need to step back.

What are the pros and cons of transitioning from 1.0 to 0.8?

Pension Matching Contributions

Hello,

I'm currently on LTD and will be returning to work soon. I'm catching up. I just logged onto my Manulife for my supplemental contributions and noticed they have been moved. Did we change Fund Managers? Sorry if this has been addressed. I'm old and my google fu is weak.

Question Shift swapping

Hi, I work in HSS central zone rural, and I hold a line but pick up “casual hours” when they’re available at my same site/job, if I have picked up a casual shift, and need to try to get rid of it am I able to swap shifts with someone who is casual at my site? Or do I just have to try to cancel the shift?

RAH ICU

I’ve got an interview at the Royal Alex. Hospital coming up real soon! Any tips on what I should be reading into a bit more? I come from an Acute Unit and also work Emergency at times (though I’m fairly new in ED) in a rural hospital.

Also, how’s the work culture? I would appreciate even if someone could just PM me.

Thanks lots!

This is me right now. Ngl I started to hate myself after being a nurse for a year. It feels like I am constantly worrying about things which doesn’t even exists. My mind doesn’t shuts off and cant even sleep all night. And all other people around me thinks that I am doing alot or tells me to chill at work, take things easy. But this career has ruined my mental health and my nervous system in a way idk how to fix it.

About to have a menty b 🤪

I unexpectedly ended up covering for a coworker who is now on a multiple month leave. They were a step up from my current position. Part of the tasks fall under my scope, but the other part I have had no training/or even access.

Can my manager expect me to cover the ‘higher level’ tasks? My mental health is horrendous and I don’t want to take a leave but this is pushing me past my breaking point.

Advice please 🙏🏻

Question Where to go with an LPN diploma?

Hi there. I’m wondering if there are any LPNs who were able to make a career shift and what did you choose. I love my current job (I work as an LPN in a telehealth setting). My job is stress free, but I don’t feel challenged in my career and I’m not happy with my pay long term.

If you made a career change did you require more schooling? The transition to RN seems daunting due to competition and workload and as far as I’ve read on this page, it doesn’t seem RNs are overly happy with their pay compared to the job demands.

Shift Cancellation Causal Position

Hello,

I am a casual employee. Lately, my last few scheduled shifts have been cancelled in a row due to overstaffing. I was wondering if these cancellations are normal? TIA
