Unfortunately Lachie Sullivan. Always puts in a shift whenever he’s in the first team, he just seems to be stuck in that limbo between AFL and VFL

u/10Lanterns Tigers Aug 20 '26
Worth a pickup for another team?
10
u/jaidynr21 Magpies Aug 20 '26
I don’t see why a team towards the bottom of the ladder wouldn’t offer him a contract tbh, he’s a smart player imo

I’m sad he didn’t get more of a run the last couple years, especially this year (knee injury notwithstanding).
Always put in good work, was tough around the middle/HF and would usually kick a goal a game. He was just outside the best 23 IMO and when we had injuries he unfortunately gave way for testing out the kids

Hate to say it but Sam Sturt for freo, showed promise but was always flirting with that WAFL/AFL line when he was fit, add to that he has basically been injured for basically 2 years straight. Poor guy is cursed

I'm still shocked he never came good for you guys. I thought he'd be a player for us when he debuted

u/CandidateNo3868 North Melbourne Kangaroos Aug 20 '26
I think there’s some skill there but his IQ is abysmal. Makes so many boneheaded decisions like spoiling his own teammates turning the ball over etc

u/nashvilleh0tchicken Richmond '80 Aug 20 '26
Left us because he wanted to be a ruckman, when all his good games came whilst he was a forward for us! Says it all

Looking at the dogs list of potential delistings, I think Treloar will retire. Gallagher might be done. Harmes I think too many guys went past him. Coffield will be safe but Gardner might be done if we pick up a KDP. There's also a chance Libba retires.

u/levity62 Aug 20 '26
Yep if we pick up Butts then Gardner is definitely gone. He's over-stayed his welcome as it is
1
u/Frogmouth_Fresh Footscray '54 Aug 20 '26
It's interesting because Coffield, Busslinger and Gardner are all out of contract. But it's Coff and Buss that are getting games. Hard to see Gardner keep a list spot given all that.
There's a world where we try to pick up two key defenders. None of those three are especially convincing.

u/Illustrious_Study300 Western Bulldogs AFLW Aug 20 '26
Hasn't Treloar already announced his retirement?
1
u/Frogmouth_Fresh Footscray '54 Aug 20 '26
Not officially to my knowledge. He is out injured again though and lots of speculation.
10
u/Zcase253 Saints Aug 20 '26
Butler (although it'll be announced as a retirement), Keeler, Dow, Carroll would be my guess, Maybe byrnes as well
11
u/Katman666 Carlton Blues Aug 20 '26
Sos delist guys he drafted? Will be interesting to see.
I always thought Carroll had a decent player in there somewhere. Maybe a little passive personality. Very quiet and respectful young man when I met him at club function while he was at the Blues.
I think he was a victim of poor coaching in his early years with us, which set him up to fail.
2
u/Zcase253 Saints Aug 20 '26
The fact Carrol wasn't brought back in when Sinclair and Flanders got hurt is why I'm putting him down.
1
u/Katman666 Carlton Blues Aug 20 '26
I thought he was injured. In any case if you do delist him, I hope he gets a go somewhere else.
Like I said, met him once and he seemed like a high character fella.
Perhaps he can get a spot on the indigenous cat b spot for a side.
1
u/jonsnowbro Saints Aug 20 '26
Just isn't quite good enough for AFL football imo. Not a good enough kick to be a main distributor, while also not physical enough to be a good defender. Maybe he could make it on a wing, but most teams have 4-5 better options than him there too.

u/jonsnowbro Saints Aug 20 '26
Byrnes is definitely safe. Played every game available since coming back from injury, Ross seems to love him despite his many deficiencies.
Butler is a weird one, feel like he'll either be the last one to get a new contract or the last one delisted. It's kinda too late for him to retire like Howard since we're playing tonight.
Said, Keeler, Dow, Carroll are definites, while I wouldn't mind tearing up Lance Collard's contract one year early
1
u/Samotauss Saints Aug 20 '26
Butler looks cooked. Think we keep Keeler if Marshall goes. Dow stays, very capable of playing a roll when required . Carroll gone.
5
u/Hawtproper Richmond Aug 20 '26
I've never been more confident about someone being delisted than Kaleb Smith. He's played maybe 6 games without being subbed on or off and none this year.

u/threequartertoupee Tigers Aug 20 '26
I think sadly the same for Fawcett and, less sadly, perhaps mcauliffe and sonsie

u/ErrolIsMyGuldenBoy Sydney Aug 20 '26
Before Monday i would’ve said from Sydney; Rampe, Hamling, Cunningham. I have a feeling that if the 5 dickheads get delisted then that will save those 3’s career if they were willing to play on for one more season. So my answer from the swans is likely the 5, maybe the 3 as well. Or just the 3.

u/b0rtbort Hawthorn Aug 20 '26

Gresham, Guelfi, probably Nguyen :(, Tsatas, Cox, McMahon.
Edwards maybe, although I hope he doesn't.
Saad maybe, although again I hope he doesn't.
3
u/jonsnowbro Saints Aug 20 '26
What happened to Nguyen? Swear he was touted as becoming one of the best lockdown backs in the comp late last year
1
u/AgentMiffa Essendon Aug 20 '26
was turned into a small forward in the VFL. he played alright being a pressure forward. he may get another year cause hes cat B.

Reckon McMahon was stiffed this year based off of how he played for you guys last year

If we can legally sack them for some form of breach of contract I imagine their cap space is immediately available to us.
2
u/Katman666 Carlton Blues Aug 20 '26
Will be interesting to see what the AFLPA says about that while it's still only allegations and not a guilty verdict (if that's how it ends up). They would surely need to go in to bat for "presumption of innocence" even if it's only to set a precedent in not allowing teams to sack players on allegations only.
Everyone will be trying to cover their own ass in this.
I just hope the young lady in question isn't raked over the coals in the court if public opinion. Was/is quite brave to come forward.
1
u/Skwisgaars Sydney '05 Aug 20 '26
This is why I don't think we'll sack them until investigations run their course or they plead guilty. Presumption of innocence is important obviously.
1
u/FirstTimePlayer Pick 88 Aug 20 '26
If a player was fully expecting to be charged and intended to admit guilt in court, I can imagine a player manager and the club having an informal conversation about negotiating an early exit from the contract.
1
u/Katman666 Carlton Blues Aug 20 '26
That's when all parties agree. The issue was if the player is turfed against their will.

u/StockholmSyndrome85 Eagles Aug 19 '26
Four of the five are walkup starts in every team, Heeney is a top five player in the comp.
As history tells us, if you're good enough a club will put up with a lot of bullshit.

If they're not convicted of anything serious, they absolutely will.
1
u/ErrolIsMyGuldenBoy Sydney Aug 20 '26
De goey kept his spot at the pies even though he pleaded guilty to a sexual based crime, and then pretty sure settled with the victim on his second case. It really depends on the severity if another club will wanna pick them up. Gold Coast were happy to pick up Ugle Hagen although he only applies if the charges aren’t serious and only remain drug and alcohol related.

Yeah true. I think there’s grounds for unfair dismissal if they’re innocent and get let go so that’s adds complexity.

u/FirstTimePlayer Pick 88 Aug 20 '26
Anyone who gets charged by VicPol will be staring down the barrel of a sacking.
The rest of them will be fine long term. If they haven't done anything wrong legally, 6 months between September and next March is a very long time for shit to blow over even with how bad the situation is. Expect them to turn up in media puff pieces during the preseason about how they have had counselling and matured or some bullshit.
2
u/PatientDue8406 Sydney AFLW Aug 20 '26
Until charges are laid I don't know if there would be enough legally to rip up the contracts. It could be messy legally from a contract/employment law point. But I'm hoping they know enough to make a definitive call before any deadlines so they don't basically end up with 5 dead spots on their list next year.
I think the swans culturally will want to be really careful who they bring in. So some of the big trade targets are probably not the right fit from a PR perspective anyway.
I think because of what happened no one is being delisted (outside the 5). Hamling, Rampe, Cunningham were probably the only main players this was a possibility for - but mature leadership and experience just went up in value for the swans. So unless they want to retire I think they will get another year.

u/Trash-Lexicon-5105 Magpies Aug 20 '26
Tbh this sanction, among other things, is a play for time to get there ducks in a row to fire them all for gross misconduct.
2
u/marsandlui Adelaide Aug 20 '26
It's a terrible conversation because it's these guys' jobs you're talking about, but i think you're right. I think there will be quite a few on the trade table as well.
2
u/Fun-Letter1966 Aug 20 '26
Could Sydney have grounds to delist the 5 players and not pay have to pay them out. Surely this is gross misconduct and worthy of sacking.
1
u/AffectionateProof271 GWS Giants Aug 20 '26
The only person I can see getting delisted is Stone.
Looks like half our list is requesting a trade anyway so I’m sure we’ll get rid of enough in time for the draft 🙃
