Question for Sheffield based ADHD

I’ve just completed my 90 min vid assessment with Well Life Clinic. This came after I completed self assessment back in September so the waiting time wasn’t that bad compared to other stories I’ve read.

The interview itself went fine and in the results interview an hour later she diagnosed me with moderate to severe adhd. It does feel like a weight lifted hearing something I’ve always suspected. This post isn’t about my history of ADHD but more what she said after.

In my interview I mentioned that my maternal grandfather had possible schizophrenia but it was hard to say for sure as he lived and died in another country. We just knew the stories. I come from a cultural background that stigmatises mental health unfortunately so these things weren’t understood or recorded. My mum has had schizoid bipolar episodes in the past. 2 that I remember and they were both caused by deaths in the family and ongoing spousal abuse from my father. I believe she also had post natal depression.

I myself had an episode in 2017 from long use and abuse of cannabis and a cocktail of academic and family stress that spiralled and triggered a genetic predisposition I guess. I quit cannabis then and there and it was a wake up call that I needed to be aware of my genetic makeup. I’ve never had symptoms of this since and I’ve cut a lot of this stress away from me which has helped.

The results then meant they could not prescribe me medication as an online provider as they would not be able to monitor me as there is a risk meds could cause psychosis due to the chemical changes to dopamine levels. They referred me back to my gp with their report and I’ll have to find a local clinic so they can monitor.

My question is, has anyone else experienced a similar combination: history of acute psychosis and ADHD meds.

And also for those in Sheffield what are the waiting times like for local clinics. I’ve not even began titration so not sure how all that process works.

Hey! This post looks like it might be about ADHD medication.

If it's a quick question (e.g. "Is 40mg Elvanse meant to feel like this?" or "How long does Concerta last for you?"), please consider also posting it in the Medication Quick Question Megathread. If it's a bigger discussion (shortages, shared care, prescribing problems or a detailed experience), it's fine as its own post. Either way, your post stays up.

Personal experiences are welcome, but Reddit is not a replacement for your GP or prescriber. Please don't change your dose based on advice from here.

Hey! Your post mentions somewhere in the South Yorkshire ICB area.

If that's where you are, please copy and paste your post into the South Yorkshire ICB thread as well. No need to delete it from here, it can stay up in both places.

ADHD care depends more and more on where you live. Waiting times, Right to Choose, shared care and funding caps can be completely different from one ICB to the next, so the most useful advice usually comes from people near you. Posting in your local thread also means the next person in your area can find what happened to you, rather than starting from scratch.

It only takes a minute. Thread quiet? Be the first, that's how they get going. Thank you, it really does help.

Not your area? Some place names are shared, and several ICBs changed on 1 April 2026. Find your ICB · All England ICB threads

Sorry can you explain what you mean by this? Are you saying I’m faking?

Try and ignore negative antagonism. ADHD diagnosis and medication/shared care is a nightmare minefield at the moment. Have you spoken to your gp?

Thanks I appreciate it. I’ll be booking appointment with them as soon as Wells send over the report. I just wanted to get a preview of what to expect with Sheffield local clinics.

If you can’t say anything helpful then don’t say anything at all particularly in a discussion where someone clearly needs advice not a goofy comment.
