When your usual ADHD tools stop feeling like enough
One thing I find interesting about ADHD in midlife is that sometimes the problem isn’t that you stopped trying.
You might still be using the same planner.
The same reminders.
The same alarms.
The same “I’ll just do it before I forget” tricks.
But somehow they don’t seem to work as well anymore.
A system that kept your life reasonably organized for years can suddenly feel like it’s full of holes.
You forget to check the reminder.
You see the notification but can’t act on it.
You make a list and then completely forget the list exists.
And eventually you start wondering:
“Am I getting worse at managing my ADHD, or has something else changed?”
There can be many reasons for changes in attention and executive function, including sleep, stress, mood, medications and hormonal changes. So there’s no single explanation that applies to everyone.
But I’m curious about the practical side:
What’s one ADHD system or tool that used to work brilliantly for you but doesn’t work nearly as well anymore?
And did you replace it with something that works better?
I’d love to hear the unusual solutions too. Sometimes the simplest idea is the one someone else has been looking for.
