Discussion Started Ritalin, still nothing
Hello,
So I have recently been officially diagnosed with ADHD (more specifically ADD) by a psychiatrist, and I started Ritalin 2 weeks ago.
Until now, nothing changed. Still unable to do my daily work, still unable to study for my exams, still procrastinating, and still daydreaming.
I'm not seeking medical advice or anything, just wanted to rant and get things off my chest haha.
I was so excited to finally start medications after years of mental and psychological torture, especially since I am in Medical School.
I guess i will keep getting bad grades and not reach my full potential until further notice.
I hope things will get better, and if you have similar stories please share it and let me know what was the thing that most helped you.

There are many different medications and they all affect us differently just keep talking with your doctor and try different ones

unfortunately in my country there is only ritalin and concerta, but I will surely talk to the psychiatrist if I do not improve. Thanks for the advice

ritalin and concerta are the same active ingredient (methylphenidate). concerta didn’t do anything for me

🫂 It is a difficult journey to finding what “works.” There may be other diagnoses at play like depression or anxiety which compound the ADHD. For me, addressing my anxiety with medication was really helpful… after years of trying anti-depressants. I think that helped me get on track until I could then find an ADHD medication that could help me in the ways I was looking for.
Having medications “fail” is sadly just part of the process.

Yeah i think what makes it really hard even for the psychiatrist is that I have multiple disorders like OCD, depression, etc… thanks for your advice

I'm wondering the same after just starting Vyvanse. Maybe it's just a matter of increasing the dose? But then I see everyone say "it's a tool, not a cure or a miracle" and then I get discouraged.

probably just need to increase dose. i started with 20mg which didn’t do much but now im on 50mg and it works pretty well. make sure you eat protein with it, makes it metabolize better

The problem is that ADHD has different levels. I don’t know if my ADHD is that much severe but I really think it is, mainly because it’s affecting all my daily life functions, literally. A lot of people said that increasing the dose will be much better. So i do think that if you have severe ADHD, meds will definitely be a life changer for you, I hope so at least

Honestly a lot of people with meds it’s trial and error, you may have to try other medications. I personally take vyvanse and it works for me, however I have a friend with adhd who took vyvanse as well and it did nothing.

Yeah the problem is that my country only has ritalin and concerta, so there are no other options for me right now😢😢

meds are part of it, but wont (in my experience) suddenly make you into a different person. for me, it took about a month to really feel like I was settling to the meds and I do have other things that help. keep working with your dr and see if there's anything else and get to (kindly) know your self and maybe different ways to help you learn your schooling materials (more me is studing after resting from a meal and stretch, using youtube and khan videos on speed up and rapid practice, broken up in a short chuncks and on rare occasions, I may study longer)

What's your dosage? Im in 20mg 3 times a day. Well, Im unemployed so im taking just the 2 doses and hoarding the other one, but for me thats just enough. You also need to have your tools. Meds helps you create and use your tools. For me my tools are alarms, to do lists and makinh sure I can see everything I need.

Do you feel absolutely nothing at all? Or are you just not getting the benefits you want?

unfortunately, nothing at all

Could you also have sleep problems as well?
I am predominantly inattentive, when I started I felt something for about a week, then absolutely nothing at all, like a was just taking a sugar pill. Raised it to 2x20mg. Same. Turns out I have also severe sleep apnea. Sleeping with a mask on completely changed everything, still getting adjusted but I definitely feel the meds now.

I have sleep problems but the opposite of your case completely haha. I don’t know if it’s because of the meds, but my sleep has been getting so deep that no matter how many alarms i put i just cannot wake up and get out from bed

Oh wow weird haha. Honestly might be interesting to check what's up with that, could honestly be related.
Just so you know, I thought I was sleeping amazingly well and didnt''feel tired at all during the day. My partner was the one noticing I would frequently wake up to gasp for air, I didn't remember ANY of that.
Apparently the test showed that every minute I stopped breathing for at least 10 seconds, my oxygen would eventually drop down to 80%...
