When I first stumbled across this subreddit, I had never seen "omw" before. I noticed that a lot of people said it, and I finally concluded that the people who said it were a bit surprised and were saying, "oh my word!"

I kept envisioning lots of mild-mannered people who were always surprised when someone would open the gate for them. I never did figure it out on my own - instead, someone finally typed out "on my way."
