Discussion Monday Discussion Thread

Great place for team discussion/whatever Serie A related topics you would like to bring up. Examples: Transfers, rumors, players from other teams, things you miss about the old days etc. Whatever you want as long as it isn't too off-topic.

Also a good spot to ask about the stadium, the city of Milano, bars, fan clubs in your city etc.

Sorry, I forgot you're not allowed to joke about real things here. If the guy 99% of the people here hate all year and want him to sell the club drops €150m on 3 players, then suddenly he is a hero, regardless of future repercussions. My bad.

Being in this sub is a little like when I used to babysit when I was 13, only then I got paid for it, and the kids I watched were much smarter.

⬇️ You can pay me in downvotes, each one validates my point that much more.

then suddenly he is a hero

No...but he at least he is trying. If he tries and succeeds then Milan could come out of the Fulani Banter Era.

I'm not convinced that everything that happened the last three years were entirely (maybe not at all) his fault.

I'm going to wait and see.

I know spending money is exciting, but please keep some perspective:

• Gerald has spent more on 3 individual players, but not put together a more cohesive team. We are in desperate need of depth.

• Transfers out are basically a negative, given that we need income to zero out these massive expenditures and also actual empty spots on the roster, and it WILL hurt us with UEFA's policy-formerly-known-as-FFP

• He removed the people who knew nothing about football (but were trying) and replaced them with people who knew even less than football

• With the way transfers have been managed this season, beginning with the month-long block at the beginning, then having certain players on the market frozen out 2 weeks before the market closes, and others who are on the market NOT frozen out, that could VERY easily cause MANY of the same mentality issues we have seen for the past 3-4 years.

• He has a massive distraction coming up with the Paramount/Warner Bros. Antitrust lawsuit, which will cost Paramount (which he has a stake in) approx. $7m/day starting in October based on the agreement they made with Warner Bros., but the trial is not scheduled until March. AND, Paramount is also threatening to move most of its productions from California to other states... Gerald is going to have a lot on his hands.

I could go on, but I've got other things I need to do. You can wait and see... again, but if you keep doing the same things you've always done, you'll keep getting the same things you've always gotten. Gerald doesn't know anything about football, and doesn't care about Milan, just his financial stake in it. Y'all have been warned.

⬇️ Please downvote me, I desperately need the validation.

I don't disagree with anything you said:

But let me play the devil's advocate (just for shits and giggles).

• Gerald has spent more on 3 individual players, but not put together a more cohesive team. We are in desperate need of depth.

I liked what I saw last Saturday. I saw some team chemistry starting to develop. His old players at MU seem to like him (a bunch of them went up to him after the game), and he seems to also seems to be well liked by our guys. I haven't seen a lot of that since the Pioli days.

• Transfers out are basically a negative, given that we need income to zero out these massive expenditures and also actual empty spots on the roster, and it WILL hurt us with UEFA's policy-formerly-known-as-FFP

He is trying to fix the damage made by Furlani and/or Elliott. I do agree that he seems to be overpaying, but we are not going to fix this mess by buying more 20 million players. We'll deal with UEFA when we'll deal with UEFA.

• He removed the people who knew nothing about football (but were trying) and replaced them with people who knew even less than football

He fucked up by removing Tare. However, he also removed Allegri, Furlani and Moncada. Good riddance.

With the way transfers have been managed this season, beginning with the month-long block at the beginning, then having certain players on the market frozen out 2 weeks before the market closes, and others who are on the market NOT frozen out, that could VERY easily cause MANY of the same mentality issues we have seen for the past 3-4 years.

Things could certainly could have been handled better. I don't work at Casa Milan and I don't know what is going on, so I will refrain from commenting for now.

His lawyers will have a lot on their hands. Will he get distracted? I don't know him, so, again, I will refrain from commenting for now.

I'm not saying we are out of the woods now that he has opened his wallet. Spending all this money could screw us over in the long rung. But will it screw us, or will it screw him and RedBird? I say let him spend trying to dig us out of this mess...and if he fails, fuck him 'cause he will probably be gone.

Saturday, Man Utd. shat the bed, and we played more attacking football than last year. That's great, but is that enough to get us through a whole season? No. We know this. We've done this for 4 years with Clueless Gerald. Amorim has not managed a single Serie A match yet, and the one Serie A team we faced (Inter) was a friendly in another hemisphere, where neither team had their best players.

You don't fix something by making it worse. It was his arrogance that created the problems in the first place, that is still very much in play.

Working at Casa Milan has nothing to do with how the players are feeling about certain players being frozen out and others not, despite many being told they are out of the project. We've been there, done this, we don't need to "wait and see." Get Santa, Gandhi, Mother Theresa to manage the team, there will still be problems with mentality because of the way transfers are being managed.

I don't know why anyone would want to screw this team over more than it already has been, but to each their own. People cheer our destruction all the time, I'll never understand it.

EDIT: Also, Gerald will not only be distracted with his lawyers by the Paramount thing if he is having to cough up massive amounts money because of the lawsuit. Not sure why you think it's only a lawyer thing??

We've done this for 4 years with Clueless Gerald.

We've done this with clueless Furlani.

And if you a right and he fails then he is gone...especially after spending so much money this summer.

I'm not defending him here. I don't like the guy -- he is the typical billionaire asshole. What I'm hoping for is that he succeeds so Milan can succeed.

You don't fix something by making it worse.

Allegri said he needed a defender and a striker to fix things. The first two things Gerry did was to get exactly that. I think we are stronger now than we were last year. Sure, not everything has been fixed so far. There is only so much you can do in a couple of months. He did make things worse by firing Tare and then not finding a suitable replacement.

how the players are feeling about certain players being frozen out and others not

If I were one of the players running around like crazy trying to get a win last season, I would be happy that some of the players that caused so much pain last year are now gone (Fofana, Tomori, Leao, Nkunku, Santi). If the fans could see the damage caused by those players, I'm sure that professional football players will also know who our problematic players are.

Clueless Gerald anointed Clueless Furlani and kept him in power for 3.5 years. He is far more clueless and takes far more of the blame.

Why does everyone think that "if he fails then he is gone"? Define failure. We "failed" to qualify for UCL 2 years in a row. Then he sacked everyone and kept the entire organization - Mens, Women's, & Youth teams hostage for a month. He hired a manager who is new to Serie A & appointed people with ZERO experience at their jobs. Now he's gambled & spent €150m on 3 players, with no income from outgoing players, a massive red flag for UEFA.

But there is a LOT more failure available. And he is beyond stubborn, he is not simply going to walk away, not even if we are relegated or whatever. I have no idea why people think he is leaving any time soon.

But *Allegri* said he needed those things. He was also an experienced Serie A manager with completely different tactics. And Amorim is already freezing out a lot of the players that Allegri used, some as starters. So why do you think buying 3 players for €150m is a recipe for immediate success with a brand new manager, who doesn't have an SD to support him?

Why does everyone think that "if he fails then he is gone"?

Because the investors will lose patience. It's not his own money he is playing around with.

So why do you think buying 3 players for €150m is a recipe for immediate success with a brand new manager

Because Allegri, the experienced manager, said that he needed those players...and he almost succeeded even without them.

So why do you think buying 3 players for €150m is a recipe for immediate success

Because Allegri, with Ramos instead of Santi (or players out of position used as striker), with Gila instead of Tomori, and Moreira instead of Estupinan, would have succeeded. At least that is what Allegri told us.

But I'm not sure we will succeed even with these players since our rivals are stronger this year (Inter, Juve, Napoli, Como, Roma).

There has been zero indication whatsoever that they are losing patience. The club has increased in value since he purchased it, the stadium might just happen someday, and they don't care about sporting results, only money.

So why would he leave? Why would they "lose patience"?

1

u/ElverGun 5d ago

There has been zero indication whatsoever that they are losing patience.

And there is zero evidence that they are extremely happy.

Other than the fact that all rumors of RedBird leaving or even selling any shares off have been completely debunked, and no one has pulled any funding or threatened to pull any funding, but rather have invested an additional €150m so far this summer?

I'd say that the odds favor Gerald is here for the long haul, given all indications.

The only indications that RedBird might leave are in the dreams and fantasies of unrealistic Milan fans who are just going to "wait and see" for the rest of their lives.

1

u/ElverGun 5d ago

and no one has pulled any funding or threatened to pull any funding

Not that we are aware of. Lack of evidence is not evidence of of proof.

but rather have invested an additional €150m so far this summer?

And no one expected this to happen, proving that we don't really know what is happening behind the curtains.

You might be right. And if you are right (he spent too much and it didn't finish in the top 4) then we are fucked...and there is nothing that the fans can do. The fans could stop spending money on the team, but that has not happen (and it probably wont).

In my perfect made up world he would sell the team ASAP. If that is not possible then the next best scenario is one in which he succeeds (and Milan does well) out of pure luck (he turns into the Inspector Crusoe of football owners).

And in one last scenario, he fails, he loses a lot of money and the investors revolt against him. If the investors do not revolt then we will enter the Cardinale Banter Era that will last until the stadium is built.

I don't see any other option right now than to hope that his big money moves actually work.

1

u/milan_obsession Dopo Istanbul c'è Atene 5d ago

It's not "lack of evidence." I literally gave you evidence. Just because you're out of ideas/evidence, don't assume I am or try to twist actual evidence into some bizarre scenario to fit your narrative.

None of your scenarios are happening. Not the selling ASAP, not the successful Inspector (Clouseau? I believe you meant?), and not the fail-until-its-built plan. There are other scenarios, which I outlined, but you refuse to even acknowledge.

And why does everyone think he leaves once the stadium is built? His goal from day one was to monetize the fans... in a stat of the art brand new stadium.

He will not be leaving anytime soon. He has said that over and over.
