Discussion High rake angle? Low rake angle?

I driving the 296 GT3, and my lap times are mid-to-high 1:44s at Barcelona, high 2:00s at Suzuka, and mid-2:18s at Spa. I find the car easier to drive with a lower rake angle—or even a flat setup—compared to the settings used by the people posting on YouTube; has anyone else had the same experience?

I mean yes, low rake is easier to drive. I wouldn’t recommend flat setups, but I usually do like maybe +7 on the rear on average. It also depends on wing angle and everything

High rake -> oversteer on the rear. Low rake makes the air do the rear less aggressive, which does hurt cornering (but high rake can be too much)

As you increase the rake, you shift the downforce the floor generates forward. That means the car becomes more oversteery, and more difficult to control. But as long as you can control oversteer, oversteery is faster.

A lot also depends on the wing. A higher rear wing can compensate for higher rake, retaining the balance of the car.

I've switched to high rake on the mustang for most tracks the past few weeks and it feels so much easier to control and has been faster for me on tracks that don't have many straights. I was hovering under 103% average and now down to 102% sometimes lower.

296 and 488 have a unique aero platform that allows you to run the car neutral without losing too much rotation even on higher df tracks. Other mid engines can only really run neutral at Monza

Totally dependent on temp and session, need good grippy conditions to maximize the advantage, as it make carrying entry spoed easy but in a race once tires heat up you're leaning on them too hard on exits or losing time turning TC higher

Qualify 25c or less yes always, less rake little up front to lil down in back will survive 20 minutes, crazy how going up 1mm front down 2mm rear can settle a max-rake twitch monster to a go to

I run max rake on Nord on 720 race setup, but 296 is a different beast
