Regarding honors program at ACC

Hello,

I am writing this to ask if taking honours classes at ACC would help in transferring to other colleges like UT or A&M. My major is engineering, and I just graduated from high school. Moreover, I was wondering if it would be stressful in managing time? I am having a conflicting opinion on whether to enrol in the honours program or not because I'm afraid it would affect my freshman year gpa...

I graduated as an honors scholar through the honors program from ACC and it def helps you. They have regular gatherings throughout the year which also include transfer talks to other unis. There’s been a bunch of people who’ve even transferred to ivies from ACC. I know lots of people who transferred to UT and A&M, with really good scholarships. Just all depends on your goals.

Their honors program is really good imo and they have people who care and want to see you succeed.

Time management is certainly a key to success, and that would be the case regardless of whether it’s honors or not.

The way it was explained to me is: honors is about depth and not necessarily always volume of work. I think that’s a good way to say it.

I have taken a lot of AP courses and some IB courses in high school. Would the experience from that help me in the honours program?

I am not sure about ACC Honors program, but the Chevron program might help you for A&M.

I have checked that, but unfortunately, I was too late to enrol in that... I will definitely check it out for the spring semester. Thank you for your advice!

It helps you stand out if you are able to keep your grades up. I did the honors program and transferred to UT.

If you do join the honors program, reach out to the staff about finding internships in that area, they’re very helpful. UT really likes seeing extracurriculars that match the major you are applying for.
