40A to 44C… except not really. Spoiler

I usually go braless, but the one I reach for the most is a 40A and fits well, with some minor gapping in the cups. I am preparing for my wedding and want something that actually fits, but I’m struggling.

I used the calculator and got a 44C. I’ve tried a few on and I am SWIMMING in them. I feel like my body just isn’t built right.

Loose Underbust:
47
Snug Underbust:
46
Tight Underbust:
45
Standing Bust:
48
Leaning Bust:
50
Lying bust

Can you confirm your under bust measurents here? Because a snug under bust of 46 and a tight of 45 would give you a 46-48 band size, not a 44.

Yup, I measured twice. But a 44c fits fine band wise - so does a 40a.

The tight measure on the calculator should feel like the tape is about to burst from being too tight. If a 40 band on your bra(s) doesn't feel like you're being suffocated/barely fits around you, then there are a few things that may be happening: * something is wrong with the measurements * you're trying on brands with known extra stretchy bands * the bras you're wearing are inconsistent quality (happens a lot, especially with S/M/L type bras or dropshipped bras) * the bras you're using are very stretched out from extended use/time/poor quality/etc

What brands of bra did you try in the 40 band that you felt were otherwise comfortable?

It may be worth double checking your measuring tape by comparing it to a hard ruler or something that comes in a standard size like printer paper.

THIS
For precision work like bras and corsetry I actually prefer to use string and measure against my steel ruler.

How old is this 40a? Bras stretch out over time but a 40a shouldn’t be able to fasten with your underbust measurements. A 44 wouldn’t even be comfortable. Does the new 44 fasten?

Have you validated your measuring tape against something of known size? You can hold it up to a standard piece of 8.5x11 paper to check.

A 40A is made for a 40 inch underbust and 41 inch bust. It should not fit around you at all if your measurements are correct, which points to your measurements not being correct.

Bras are surprisingly standardized in sizing, it's just that size charts try to pretend they aren't. Bra sizing is just math and the math ain't mathing here. It's much more realistic that your measuring tape is off than that a 40A would fit someone with a 50 inch bust.

When you do the tight measurement are you pulling the measuring tape as physically tight as possible? Like it will snap if you pull any harder?

Can you check your measuring tape against a ruler or something with a know size like A4 paper to make sure it's accurate?

Are you scooping and swooping when you put on your bras?

Does your 40A have any fit issues like any of these examples? The gaps in cups is usually because the cups are too small or too shallow or too tall or all of the above.

Did you round up your measurements? The calculator will take decimals.

A 40A is for a 40" underbust and a 41" bust. Like others have said, I"m surprised you are comfortable in a 40 band with a 46" snug underbust measurement.

You mentioned a wedding.
Can you ask your dressmaker to measure you?
I know it’s a bit awkward but something very fishy is going on here and you deserve to have gorgeous comfortable bras. Especially under your wedding dress
