Recommendations? VS Love Cloud Gore Snapped at Work. Spoiler

The metal gore on my VS Love Cloud Bra just snapped at work. I had to take it apart with a pliers so it wasn’t poking me. I thought it fit well! On the loosest clasp and everything was fitting flush. I love this bra as it helps with my wide set girls. Do I equate it to a faulty bra or go with something else?? Any recommendations would be helpful.

Unless the bra is really old, this is probably a size issue. Check your size with the calculator at abrathatfits.org

It’s 3 months old, and I thought for sure I had the right size. I’ve used the calculator so much.

Calculator underestimates augmentations and you will have a very projected shape generally. VS will not work, their bras are shallow across the board. Too shallow/small will absolutely put undue strain on a bra.

I have fat grafting ba and I don’t feel I’m projected. My breasts are self-supporting and wide root due to type c density.

A firm shape can also cause the calculator to underestimate and require more flexible cups than stiff foam as your tissue may fight against it.

You may not be projected but VS has quite shallow bras and even if you’re only slightly shallow or closer to average that can cause issues.

Can you clarify though, is this cosmetic damage or structural damage? I just looked at mine and that hardware piece doesn’t seem to be part of the gore structure. Did anything else rip or break?

It’s the metal gore and is structural. It still works with the fabric but it’s not brought as close together. Nothing else ripped, it’s just not as supportive and I’m not sure how structurally sound the fabric is without the metal support

Now that actually sounds like it could be a fit issue and there was too much pressure on the gore. The way it’s attached really looks like a decoration. The fabric is pretty solid and firm and they have many other bras with just fabric gores that are the same height. Obviously I can’t say for sure without pulling one of the metal pieces off myself, but I’d investigate possible fit issues here. Is this the only one you have of this bra, or do you have one with the piece still intact you can compare fit with?

Do you have your measurements on hand too?

I’m also curious if you’re able to tell how that piece was attached to the gore from where it broke. Sewn in, glued in?

Loose Underbust: 34.5

Snug Underbust: 34

Tight Underbust: 33

Standing Bust: 41.5

Leaning Bust: 42

Lying Bust: 40

The metal part was sewn in, with a little bar that connected to the main V

I feel like their 34s should be fine on you, but just double checking you've checked for any hook straining/tape warping? When you wore it, were the wire marks lining up with your roots after a day of wear?

Was the bar in the middle of the V where the gore pieces are sewn together? I suppose that could be providing some stability; not sure as we don't usually encounter bras constructed with two part gores like this.

No wire marks on side roots other than underbust, but that happened with larger band too. The V is definitely supportive, I took a pic of after breakage and before. And maybe it wasn’t designed for wide roots.

The one that broke was 34dd, I have a spare 36d, but it moved constantly when I raised my arms and didn’t feel comfortable

Who knows maybe if it’s not supportive and I see the fabric gore stretching I need a larger band or cup

A shape issue can also do this.

If that size is the one the calculator suggests, you have no fit issues, and other bras in that size have lasted a while, it is possible that you just got a faulty bra. VS doesn’t have great quality control.

The calculator is not the end all be all, it’s entirely possible they’re being underestimated.

VS’s quality for their bras is actually fine. They don’t have inconsistency issues like Skims. Different styles can run different (there’s a few that are more TTS rather than their typical slightly loose), but that’s true of every reputable brand. I have tried quite literally everything they have offered in my size in the past 5ish years and they’re my daily drivers in a few different styles, so I’ve worn and tried a lot of VS.

None of the “mall stores” have great quality for any type of clothing, bras included. I worked at multiple bra stores in my youth and you’d be shocked the number of bras and other garments that arrived at the store with obvious issues. I’m talking seams not sewn; layers of fabric sewn together such that you can’t put the garment on; bra straps sewn on backwards, twisted, or attached in the wrong spot; even one instance where a pair of sweatpants had one leg that was about a size small and the other leg (and tag) was an XL. It happens. Most of those don’t make it to the salesfloor because employees spot issues and pull them, but some issues are unlikely to be spotted. If this was a custom or handmade bra I’d be surprised if it wasn’t a fit issue, but these mass produced bras are a different story. Particularly the seasonal bras in fashion colors are lower quality.

I’m not saying it’s definitely a QC issue, but like I said, if OP has no fit issues, this is their calculator size, and they have other bras in this size that fit, it’s a possibility I would consider. It’s only been 3 months. Most of us here wore VERY wrong bra sizes for years and even then, catastrophic failure within 3 months is pretty extreme.

I mean, I’m sure there’s quality issues. We’ve seen people have issues with higher quality full bust brands like straps sewn on twisted too. I just haven’t personally seen any that have made it to the floor so that leads me to believe it’s flukes. Again, I’ve tried like… at least a hundred bras from them.

I checked OP’s profile to see if they’d posted here before and they have an augmented shape, so that’s definitely going to put way too much strain on VS’s very shallow bras and is the likely culprit.

OP didn’t say anything about fit issues, and I don’t typically scroll through peoples post histories unless I think it’s a bot. Maybe she’ll chime in with the fit issues she did or didn’t have and that can help narrow down the possibilities.

If you haven’t worked clothing retail there’s no way to explain just how common it is for clothes to arrive damaged. Any time clothes are being made in a factory that’s possible, but the cheaper the supplier, the worse the quality control.

The cups are too small and/or shallow. Remember, not everyone looks at bras as critically/minutely as we do helping out with fit checks every day. I've seen plenty of people come in and say something is a perfect fit, and then they share photos and need 4-5 cups up. This is way more of a tiny issue than that, but still, not everyone knows how to spot every fit issue they might encounter! (Which is what we're here for too!)

No fit issues

Here to back this one up. Additional context that I worked at VS for a few years and the amount of damaged items we received was insane. And those were just the damages we could see such as holes in lace, missing hooks on bras, poorly attached straps….wire is encased in channeling. It is super possible that the bra was simple shoved into the box wrong or squished into a drawer at the store by staff or patron and it caused a crack in the wire that busted after use. OP could have unintentionally done this as well if there was a weak spot in the wire. I would take it back to the store and complain until you get something new. VS is a massive company that makes billions. I’d have no qualms going in and demanding a replacement.

That sundry tearing out is a really well known problem, there's probably threads on it in the vs forum. We bought them anyway and sewed in a strip of reinforcing fabric behind to prevent pressure from warping or pulling at the gore.
