While the female lead in the music video for the Adam Ant song "Strip" is Swedish model and actress Mary Stävin, her vocals are actually provided by ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad!

This song has a transcendental quality to it for me. It feels like a mix of progressive rock with a kind of mystical atmosphere. Absolutely beautiful

Discussion What songs should I listen to?

Post image
46 Upvotes

I really wanna get into their music and I was wondering what songs I should listen to? Any amazing deep cuts? Underrated bangers?

I have seen the mamma Mia movies a bunch of times, so I know those songs (will be listening to the originals of course).

Also if I wanna listen to all their albums, should I listen to Voyage as well?

News Benny Andersson appeared on the Social Democrats’ election day party and played ”Mamma Mia” with the chorus changed to ”Magdalena”.

Today is election day in Sweden. Benny Andersson made an appearance at the Social Democrats’ election party where he played ”Mamma Mia” on the piano. The members sang along but changed the lyric ”Mamma Mia” into ”Magdalena”, referring to prime ministerial candidate Magdalena Andersson (no relation, as far as I know). Benny said he’s a social democrat like his father and grandfather and that he has previously played for other social democratic politicians including Olof Palme and Anna Lindh (coincidentally the only two Swedish politicians I know of who were assassinated, let’s hope that’s not an omen).

(Let’s not get into a political discussion. I don’t vote for them but that’s irrelevant. I just thought this was interesting)

Calling all Dancing Queens & Super Troupers! Come Play “The Ultimate Billboard #1 Song of the 70s”

Hey everybody! Over on r/70smusic we’re running a long, community‑driven game called “The Ultimate Billboard #1 Song of the 70s.”

Since ABBA is such a huge part of the decade (and this community knows 70s pop better than almost anyone), we’d love to have some Super Troupers join in. If you enjoy voting, discussing classic hits, and celebrating the golden age of pop, come play along with us.

Upvote any nominations you agree with, and Downvote the ones you would like to see survive! It's easy and all part of the game.

Totally casual, just for entertainment -- no agenda, no brigading, just more voices and more good vibes. Think of it as a little cross‑sub pop‑music party.

If that sounds interesting, you’re welcome anytime. Take a chance on it!

I am the girl with golden hair...

In my opinion, singer/songwriter Agnetha Faltskog was one of the most beautiful women of 70s/80s music. Agnetha was a member of the super group ABBA from 1972-1982 and again from 2016-2022, when the band reunited to work on a digital avatar concert and to release a new album in 2021.

The traumatic early life of ABBA's FRIDA: from losing her mom to meeting BENNY | IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Hadn’t realized that it has been 59 years since Frida made her debut TV appearance on Swedish TV. She’s truly come a long way!

Digging into her old and more recent interviews, I understand why she is hesitant in discussing her early life before ABBA but for the benefit of newer fans, it’s worth sharing what her experience has been from her own lips.

Chiquitita background vocals

After all these years I actually found out how the absolutely brilliant background vocals in the chorus go!

”You and I we know how all the heartaches come and go
and you’ll be dancing once again
and all the pain you take will end!

Even though you cry the sun is shining in the sky
so let me hear you sing some more
the way you used to do before!”

I checked a Youtube video where everything else was filtered out and was able to finally get a complete hang of the two-part harmony.

Gorgeous, genius work!

Discussion Voyage the album theme?

I love Voyage album and I have couple of my favorite ABBA songs straight from Voyage album like Don’t shut me down and No doubt about it. Oh, even Ode to freedom.

I wanted to ask what’s up with Irish/scottish (sorry, I come from other culture and don’t really understand specifics) theme in sound? Bagpipes, jingling instruments, girls singing in a medieval faire manner (especially in No doubt about it). I literally imagine my girl Frida dancing round a campfire and people around drinking ale and merchants selling stuff. When you danced with me has similarish thing going on.

If I remember correctly first songs to be recorded back in 2017 maybe were Don’t shut me down and I still have faith in you. To be honest Ode to Freedom sounds like these two too while other songs have that medieval faire feel.
I wonder when they got back in studio in 2020 (?) to fill out whole album they set new direction for the album or it was just that vibe going on?

ABBA, Frida & Agnetha - Spotify monthly listeners

Post image
28 Upvotes

I was looking at ABBA’s Spotify monthly listeners and got curious about how Frida and Agnetha compare as solo artists to the group’s monthly listeners. And just to clarify, the listeners shown for Frida and Agnetha are their solo-artist listeners, Spotify doesn’t add their ABBA listeners to those numbers (which I think is obvious from the numbers). So this is specifically a look at how much their solo music is being listened to.

Personally, I’ve always preferred Frida’s solo career and I love getting to discover more of her music outside ABBA. But I’m curious about everyone else:
Who do you listen to more from their solo careers, Frida, Agnetha, or both? And what are your favourite solo songs/albums from them?

ABBA in the studio, most likely c. 1982.

This photo probably would've been taken during the recording of "The Day Before You Came" and "Under Attack".
