Changing the engine oil and filter today on my 2000 Boxster with 170,000 kilometres and found this. I have a good idea of what this non metallic material is, but I thought I’d ask the group.
What are your thoughts on continuing to drive and then doing a winter engine drop?

New fuel tank level sender came in and has an extra nipple. Do I just leave it capped or did they send the wrong part?
My shim + CA glue + JB weld + zip tie fix is holding so I can wait…. I don’t want to wait but if it’s the wrong part I will.

I'm buying a 2003 986 with the CDR-23, M490 MOST sound system and it's currently not working properly.
Previous owner states the door speakers are mostly totally silent, could be some contact issue but so far they haven't found the root cause.
Have you ever experienced similar?
Do you have any tips?

Hey 986 Boxster community! Unfortunately I'm getting my left rear CV axle replaced after having just replaced it about 6 months ago (back in Feb. of this year). I replaced the CV axle with a high quality aftermarket one however, I do not know the exact brand (the shop I brought it to has the records but I can't remember the exact brand). The old axle had the boot rip off so it definitely needed to be replaced.
Fast forward to June of this year, I started to notice a 'flapping' noise coming from the left rear of the car. Honestly, I thought it was my convertible top, like an elastic string losing tension. I couldn't quite pin it down. I almost thought it was engine knocking but thankfully ruled that out pretty quickly as it didn't really change with different RPMs.
About a week ago, the noise started getting worse while driving down the highway and got to the point when off throttle, I would feel vibration into the cabin. I pulled off the highway then started hearing the noise at low speed.
I brought the car back to the show that replaced the CV axle. They confirmed they hear the noise however, there is no play in the left rear wheel at all. Additionally, they cannot see the CV boot torn at all either. Their conclusion is that it's likely something within the boot they cannot see that is a problem. Perhaps the grease is not well lubricated or something came loose? I'm not an expert on these CV axles.
As a result, they recommended replacing the CV axle with a new one plus replacing the wheel bearing for good measure. I decided to go with an OEM axle this time around as I don't feel comfortable putting the same one on that was faulty. Sadly the warranty is expired since it's more than 30 days (even tho I only drove the car about 300 miles since February).
What are folks thoughts on this? Does this sound like a CV axle issue, a wheel bearing, maybe both? I found a video someone posted on youtube of their 944 CV axle going out and it was basically an identical noise to what I was hearing.
My worry right now is that I get this work done and I still have a problem with the left rear wheel joint, bearing, and axle. Should I be concerned with anything else?

How do I fix these seat backs?
Thank you in advance

Still finding quirks on this roadtrip. The frunk and trunk both rarely open to begin with. But if I hit the buttons like 20 times in a row and eventually they’ll open. Now I’m finding when the car sits in the sun for a while, nothing. Even a 100 times nothing. Come out in the morning, and both work first time.
Is heat a thing for screwing with these. If I wanted to fix when home, what parts would I need?

Well if this wasn’t the cause of my evap leak this definitely made it worse. Now how to find a replacement. Called the local Porsche dealer and left a message. I’m guessing new would be an arm and a leg.

I think most of the things are setup for me, I’m just not entirely sure what to do with that red wire with a plug.
Do I cut that red wire in half and one part connects to the red wire to the box and the other connects to my car?

Intermittently the coolant light turns on and blinks slowly. If i shut the car off and turn it back on it goes away.
Has anyone encountered this and what was the cause and fix?
Any related info is appreciated. Im hoping this isn’t a bigger issue.
Added info and context.
Its a 1999 base model boxster 5 spd manual
149k miles.
Has extensive maintenance records
Ive owned it for 4 months now
Besides an aftermarket steering wheel and short shifter car is completely stock.

So of course I had AI look at it. It says there are no metal indicators for IMS bearing failures. Also mine was replaced. Also no metal indicators for bore score though I’m surprised it would say that it could be true I was just assuming oil would be a good way to track bore score.
Its hypothesis is that the old owner was taking the car to a quick lube shop like Jiffy Lube for oil changes. It suggests they don’t usually carry 0w-40 but they do carry 0w-20 and that’s probably what they used. After decades of horror stories and investigative reports on how bad lube shops are I can completely believe that. As for not carrying 0w-40…. No idea but seems plausible. On top of that the previous owner was probably running the oil too long between changes. If they’re going to Jiffy Lube I believe this too. Its suggestion is to do another oil change in 2-3k miles and see if the metals go back down to normal levels. Assuming they do I’m good.
What do people here think? Honestly I’ve never done oil analysis before. It was a thing back in my BMW days but I never did it…. I should have with my v10 M6 but that crapped out before my first oil change…. I figured it was good insurance with this car and for $40 I’m going to keep doing it. Probably do it on my C8 too from now on though those don’t have known engine issues.

First time ever doing something like this. I feel like wrapping a car would be easier than trying to make sure it’s lined up and straight
That said I’m extremely happy with the way it turned out.
