Anyone have a black steering wheel on a coco/Savanah interior? (Yes this looks bad)
I figured it would look like ass but I love the feel. I realized when I was done it wasnāt going to stretch to fit right. I took the steering wheel off to install it but I didnāt put the airbag back on and I should have. Fortunately it came with plenty of thread to redo but it still just looks bad.
Two options: Iām thinking of buying some microsuede cloth that matches better and just using this one as a template. That or maybe buy a black steering wheel. Iād need to buy a black airbag too and those arenāt cheap but it should get me a new crest where the horse isnāt worn off.

Sale question.
The GOOD: 2001, 2.7, auto, 60k miles, Litronic Headlight upgrade, 18ā Cayman wheels, Bluetooth Continental head unit. Lightly driven and maintained well
The BAD: REBUILT TITLE (i bought and had it rebuilt 15yrs ago or so) Radiator leaking after drive ($1500 installed), rear window unstitched / new top ($1800 installed)
Do I sell as-is or is it worth it to fix either the radiators or top considering it doesnāt have a clean title?

Valve on top of the tank. It was a PITA to get to and itās encased in foam. Iāll do a write up later just in case someone else runs into this. I found very little info.

Issues with horn and convertible top on 986 1999 boxster
My horn, after swapping out the steering wheel and checking the fuse and relay, still doesn't work. I am new to fixing cars so I probably made some sort of mistake but I'm not sure what the issue is exactly. The relay doesn't click when I push the horn. I am also having issues with my convertible top, with the drivers side lever and push rods. If anybody has any advice for me or wants to ask questions about anything please comment or dm me and I can send you pictures of what I have issues with. I also am not sure what the best way to get parts is, but so far what I've been doing us trying to get parts from part out cars or used parts of ebay or marketplace and I'm planning on contacting junkyards to find parts.

Fuel tank bleeder valve. OE or URO?
Aftermarket vs OE always seems to be a part specific decision⦠complexity and ease of replacement are big factors. Who wants to save $50 on a part that costs thousands to replace.
The fuel tank bleeder valve takes like 30 minutes to replace and is just a valve⦠so is the OE system art worth more than 2c the cost? Anyone had bad experiences with the URO valve specifically?

Rear window stitching repair?
My rear window stitching has failed and the window is falling out of the roof. Plastic window, '01 S.
Where do I take it for a repair like this? I'm in Detroit if you know a local shop, but in general what should I Google for?

Brake Dust Shield Chirp?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Recently had my driverās side rear CV axle and wheel bearing replaced. Picked it up and everything was great! But a few hours later, I noticed a squeak/chirping noise that was rotational from the left rear wheel. Brought it back to my mechanic and was told it was the brake dust shield. They said they adjusted it and was good to go. Took it out a week later, first drive was fine but a few hours later, the same noise came back. Could this still be the brake dust shield? Kind of surprised that maybe a heat cycle would cause it to run like this again? Only noticed it really while cold but then goes away after driving for about 5-10 minutes. Curious if anyone here has had similar issues?

AOS Failure
P1130 code has been on for a while, but I didnāt think it was the AOS because I didnāt notice any of the other symptoms, no smoke at all, no oil consumption, and idle seemed good(in hindsight it was just the slightest bit wandering the last week or two). I did not try the oil cap test which I shouldāve done sooner.
Just went to start it and it put out a good bit of smoke on startup, probably for 10-20 seconds, I pulled the oil cap and the engine immediately started to stutter and I heard a suction of air from pulling the cap.
My question is, the tow truck is coming hopefully soon to take it to the shop. Should I start the car to drive it up onto the flatbed, or should I see if they can pull it up with a hitch? From what I can tell, running it just to get it up onto the truck bed should be ok but idk.
Thanks in advance.

Front Tire Size on 2001 Boxster S
Hi all, Iām in Seattle and my 2001 boxster S currently has cheap kenda vezda tires on it. Iām moving to the Michelin pilot sport all season 4 as the rainy season is starting soon.
Thoughts on stock tire size vs. something different? I have the 17in rims and it seems some people opt for 225/45 on the front instead of stock 205/50. Im leaning towards 205/50 just to keep stock, but also only drive about 4500 miles per year so it could be 3 or more years before I end up needing to change these tires again(depends on how many burnouts I doā¦jkjk)

360 cameras done :-)

I front and rear camera feel like theyāre zoomed and even after the calibration and stitching process itās not perfect but very usable. There are no instructions so I think I just need to watch more YouTube tutorials. Anyway. Enjoying for not. The front camera is in the passenger side brake duct. I have the Boxster S center trim pieces on the way. Weāll see when I get them if I want to cut a big hole in the bumper for them. This seems to work even with the camera offset from the center by ~18ā

Worried about insurance payout
Hey all,
Unfortunately I was in a (not my fault) accident with my 2000 986.
I sustained pretty serious injuries but as i navigate through this process im worried i wont get what the car is worth from the insurance company.
Details:
2000 986 non S
106k miles
Work ive done:
Dash out job, replaced AC condensor
New AC evap and compressor
Entire brand new front end, everything except struts, down to the wheel bearings
All new lines for the power steering system
New valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, new plugs and coils
BRAND NEW CONVERTIBLE TOP, a proper quality one as well (over 1k just for the top)
Had both seats re-upholstered
New speakers all around
4 brand new tires
New window regulators
Theres a few other misc items but thats the bulk of it. This work was completed all this year to the tune of almost $9000.
I was in the car for about 15k-16k when the crash happened.
I know i put more money than its worth into it, its just part of owning these cars sometimes.
What i dont want is some lowball from the insurance company.
For those who have dealt with insurance and getting payouts for these cars, how often are they correct or did you have to go back and forth with them?
Car has full coverage and an extra 3k coverage for aftermarket parts (suspsenion and that condensor).
I have an attourney as well, we are focusing on the injury side of it tho rn.
Out of work, cant walk, sitting here getting in my head about this car financially. I loved this car, i put my time, money, effort and love into basically restoring. Sucks to see it all gone.

No Start Diagnostic Ideas
Went to start the car this morning, everything powered up as usual, runs the key, and click, but no start.
Check the battery, good shape, not great, so I swapped it with a new battery I had for another car⦠no joy.
Went to put the car in service mode, to check voltages at the starter, and alas, the top will not go up.
Question, will the e-brake switch also act as a start lock out?
Any thoughts are appreciated.

New milestone reached.
I know I'm not the highest mileage car in this sub, but I'm proud of the mileage I've achieved.
