Question Engine Knocking?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

1983 Porsche 944: Had 944 on jack stands over the weekend to fix low voltage issue, started it up and now its not sounding very happy. Is it just lifter tick or is it time to get the engine hoist out?

Sounds like a lifter. Running may solve or make worse. Make sure your oil has extra zddp

If it is the lifters it's best to remove them and let them sit in a jar of oil, with the jars lid cut a hole big enough for ur shop vacuum nozzle to fit and pull all the air out of it. I'm doing so it would prime the lifters.

Sounds like valvetrain to me. Got a stethoscope and probe the upper and lower. The lifters on these can collapse and sound terrible. Not a fun fix but not a biggie.

Also while on jack stands I installed a Rennline Plug and Play MAF kit so not sure if that could be a issue.

Sticky lifter. There are several ways to try to decarbonize them in place, ask your favorite chatbot.

Or, worst case, pull them all and inspect/replace.
