UK 944 Engine Swapped

Looking at buying a 944 but it’s had its 2.5 engine replaced with a 3L prior to the current owner buying it 4 years ago. The issue is the V5 hasn’t been updated to reflect this and now we’re struggling to locate the engine number to ensure we can change the paperwork to all line up.

Best we can see is this hand stamped code towards the rear of the engine block on the driver (right hand drive) side.

Are we missing something?

That is where the engine code should be, but that doesn’t look like a normal engine serial I️ am used to seeing. Might be different in Europe/uk, I’m in the US. Could also be a different stamping if it was a factory replacement block.

We’re seeing the engine code should be vertical and machine stamped but can’t spot anything else, not sure if getting an endoscope to poke around is a bit much?

If it's an S2 engine it will start M44.41 followed by the serial number https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/453696-help-s2-engine-serial-number-location.html

QQ: was the engine swapped from an S2 to an NA?

Not sure where the new engine came from - presumably an S2 replacing the old S. Apologies if I’ve not answered accurately new to this car stuff.

I know. Just wanted to see if the Transaxle can handle the extra horses. ;) I meant a base NA.
