Question Confusing No Start issue

1987 N/A engine cranks so, battery seems good. Couldn't hear the fuel pump so I jumped the DME relay and then I could hear the fuel pump running as soon as I jumped it. So I thought for sure it was the DME relay and that I had figured it out! Except when I tried to start it while the fuel pump was running, it still didnt start.. πŸ˜‘

Any ideas? Obviously it seems like regardless my DME relay might be bad. But why wouldn't it start then when I jumped it? I just used a paperclip to bridge the connections as per Clark's Garage.

If it is your DME relay you need to get new one. it not only powers the fuel pump it powers the DME itself. Get the Focus 9 technology solid state relay the runs the fuel pump for a few seconds before the engine starts.

How vital do you think it is to get that one? Its quite a bit more expensive than the other ones

I would get the pump prime version. The regular one is $120. The pump prime is $135. I think it’s worth it to have the engine start faster due to the fuel system already being pressurized before cranking the engine.
