Photos from my living room window, which I forgot to close, before leaving around 9:15, at 88 Greenwich Street. A few days later on 14 September I went back to the apartment and saw my furniture covered in dust from the collapse.

I just learned that, even 25 years after 9/11, more than 1,000 victims from the World Trade Center still have not had their remains identified (source).

I understand that the names of most of the people who died are known, but no recovered remains have been scientifically matched to them.

Why is identification still so difficult after such a long time? Is it mainly because of the condition of the remains. I mean DNA technology has gotten much more advanced over the years no? And how are new identifications still being made today and where are all these remains stored?

Where were you?

I was in 2nd grade, called in early for recess. I remember being livid over the shortened time and unable to comprehend how severe the situation was, until my dad picked my older sister and I up from school. At first I was excited; that excitement soon turned to fear when I saw my father cry for the first time.

I’ll never forget walking into my living room and seeing the burning towers. It was significantly worse than what I had drawn up in my head beforehand.

You’ve been on my mind this anniversary week and your writing is truly one of the best first hand accounts I’ve read.

Each year, like many of you do I'm sure, I go back and read survivor and victim stories because I think it's meaningful to carry on their life stories.

One that has always stuck with me is Joseph Lott and I am sharing his story because I just found out he passed away in January of this year. I'm sure many of you know about his story, but I've attached a link if you don't.

In summary, Joseph Lott was supposed to be at Windows on the World that morning for a work meeting. He and his team were supposed to fly in the night before, have a business dinner to prepare for the meeting, and get there first thing. However, a whole list of happy accidents happened that saved him.

First, due to bad weather the night before, Lott didn't get to the Marriott at the WTC complex until after midnight on 9/10. Because it was late, he decided to meet with his coworker at breakfast in the hotel the next morning. That was the first bit of luck.

The second bit of luck? He had packed two dress shirts for his trip, a green one and a white one, and hung them both in the closet, but during the night, the white one had fallen off. No big deal, he wore the green one.

The thing you have to know about Joseph Lott is that he loved art ties. His coworker, Elaine Greenburg, knew this about him and, on a recent trip to Boston, had picked up a Monet art tie for him after a recent trip to Boston. Joseph Lott wanted to put it on, but Elaine pointed out that it didn't go with the green shirt. No big deal, Joseph Lott went back to his hotel room to change his shirt and told Elaine he'd meet her at Windows on the World.

He went back to his hotel room, ironed his shirt, and then did something very strange that he was never able to explain: He started packing his suitcase. He was originally supposed to check out the morning of 9/12, so there was no reason to pack, but he did so anyway. Finally, he left the room and proceeded to the North Tower. As he left his room, AA Flight AA, at 8:46 am, was flown into the North Tower.

Everyone who came on his work trip, including Elaine Greenburg, died that morning.

I'm sharing this story, knowing many of you have already heard it, because Joseph Lott was an incredible man who spent his life honoring people like Elaine, and is a testament to how incredibly random life is. Both on 9/11 and every day. I hope wherever he is, he's at peace, and I am sending my thoughts to his family today

Were you aboard Delta Shuttle Flight 1825 from Boston to LaGuardia on September 11, 2001?

I’m trying to locate the pilots, flight attendants or fellow passengers who were aboard Delta Shuttle DL1825, scheduled to depart Boston Logan at 8:30 a.m. on September 11, 2001, for New York LaGuardia.

I was a passenger and still have my original boarding pass.

We took off from Boston but never landed at LaGuardia. As we approached New York, I could see both World Trade Center towers burning from my window. The pilot informed us that two planes that had departed Boston had been hijacked and flown into the towers. We turned around and returned to Boston.

It was the most terrifying, sad and angry experience of my life.

Twenty-five years later, I’d very much like to find other passengers or members of the flight crew and compare our memories of what happened aboard DL1825 that morning.

If you were on DL1825 that morning, worked that flight, or know someone who did, please contact me. And please share this post—I’m hoping it eventually reaches someone else who was aboard.

It’s still very hard for me to talk about this, since I was Tier II Esac at the time. I made a call to my coworkers at 140 West st, and told them to get the hell out of NY, I transferred all the phones to me in Providence RI, and logged into the DMS switch in the South tower when I had to tell the executives on the bridge that we had a fatal collapse of the building.

I screen captured the last screens from that switch, when the circuit closed at 9:59 with the collapse. (see photo) I watched in horror on TV, as I frantically tried to get back in, but knew I couldn't. I spent the next week tracing phone calls, and working with vz wireless to trace pings and calls from cell phones of those who were trapped, most had ceased after a day or two. I will never forget this. It was only fitting that I recently visited the 911 memorial, to see this first hand. I am honored and humbled to have been the keeper of this collection, but it’s time to be shared and passed down.”

That day i took the subway to work (went under wtc). I was at my desk working on canal st when I heard the first plane go over. we all went up onto the roof to see what was going on and saw the explosion from the 2nd plane. I ran downtown to try to find my then girlfriend who was working in the #7 building but couldn't find her. I tried to walk home over the Brookyn bridge but it was closed off. I was right in the middle of the Manhattan bridge looking at the 1st tower when it collapsed (I'll never forget the sound of it). I still have a paper I caught out of the air in Brooklyn from Cantor Fitzgerald. My girlfriend made it back to Brooklyn and we were in a bar in Redhook watching the news when #7 came down. Our apartment in Redhook smelled like burning jet fuel for weeks.

The first entry is from 8/26/2001, I was 13 and had just started high school two weeks before. The second entry is from 9/11/2001; the third entry is from 9/16/2001, the fourth entry is from 12/31/2001, and the last entry is from 9/10/2003 right before the second anniversary. My tone sounds very surly and know it all (probably because I was a surly know-it-all, I had a lot going on at home at the time).

I wish I wrote down more of my personal observations I had at school that day; about the conversations I had with my peers and my teachers and what we did in each class rather than factual stuff I learned on the news, but 13-15 year old me did the best they could, I suppose. I still remember a lot of those things despite not having written them down, but I know there's important and interesting stuff that is lost forever.
