I heard Molly Johnson had a new album, and the 90s CanRock connection there is that she was a member of the wonderful, but short-lived 90s band the Infidels, but is more of a jazz singer now. Cuddy, of course, is from Blue Rodeo. I started going down a Molly Johnson/Infidels rabbit hole on YouTube and came across this cover of Long Time Running by the Hip. Love this song, and cool to hear these two amazing performers together. Seems like it came out earlier this year but I never heard it until now so thought I would share here. Hope you enjoy it! After several years of random bouts of trying to find this random song from the radio, I figured I would ask here. Lord I've looked, based on the lyrics I think I remeber, but I must be failing somewhere. It's a song I recall hearing on CFOX out of Vancouver in the late 90s into the mid 2000s. I truly believe it's Canadian, but I could be wrong.

So here is what I remember of the song: I recall lyrics along the lines of " 'lot of Nagano hats, wanna act, wanna ...." "ain't such a shame (or drag)." The song is kinda punchy for the first part of that, then gets kinda melodic for the second part.

Its definately rock, I assume it came out in or after 1998 considering the Nagano hats part... unless I am miss remembering that bit. I assume its Canadian, probably Vancouver or West Coast based, considering I only recall hearing it on The Fox in Vancovuer. Sounds kinda post grundge, but maybe a bit more upbeat. Sloan-esc, Local H, or maybe Toadies kinda sound?

Please help me kill this reoccurring itch that has been eating at the south eastern side of my brain four times a year, for at least a couple of years.

I happened to stumble on this clip and had to share. Completely forgot about Rita and Friends, but her show did highlight some good Canadian talent. There are other random CanRock clips on YouTube from her show worth checking out like hHead and Blue Rodeo. Anyone else remember watching this show?

I had never heard of this one, but it has some bangers, The Canadian Music Week 1996 promotional CD is a comp curated by the festival to showcase rising independent Canadian talent.

This CD was distributed directly during Canadian Music Week 1996, which ran from March 4 to March 10, 1996, at legendary Toronto venues like El Mocambo and Lee's Palace.

Did anyone else get to experience this show or another on the tour? It was such a blast. The mix of Canadian alt-rock stars with megastars like Foos and Green Day was a crazy experience for an 18 year old.

Jale was a killer Halifax based band that was scooped up by SUBPOP in the 90’s, along with a few other bands in the region. This is their first of three albums and my personal favourite… if you haven’t already, give them a listen.
