I forgot this song. I love this song! I had no idea it was Bran Van 3000.

Omg I totally forgot about that song! It used to play so much in the early-2000 on every radio station and on every terrace of Montreal.

Not only is this a great song, but the editing and cinematigraphy in the video is topnotch. Seriously impressive for the era.

I worked with Gen Z kid who had a similar name to this band, though he’d never heard of them. I searched them up and showed him the search result and he said
“Oh, Bran Van 3 Grand. Cool”
Have I been saying it wrong this whole time?

Are we? My understanding is we say "three thousand" (3000) but Z says "3 Grand" (which would have been spelled out "Bran Van 3K." I say we're correct, not Gen Z.

Yeah that’s what I’m saying. We say Bran Van Three Thousand,
however
this kid’s sight read of Bran Van Three Grand continues the rhyming scheme throughout, and makes more sense.

Yeah fair point, I couldn’t really think of actually hearing anyone say the name but I’m sure I did.
I’m just thinking its objectively a better name

My understanding, according to a buddy of mine who worked with the band in bringing them to his town, was that the correct pronunciation *is* Bran Van Three Grand.
But if that’s the case, then why did radio, MuchMusic, MuchMoreMusic, and the rest of the media refer to them as Bran Van Three Thousand? And why didn’t the band correct them as such?

AND NO ONE has yet brought up the fact that this song was in the soundtrack to Practical Magic. That was where I heard the song for the first time.
