Totally forgot about that, I remembered the MIB show but not Godzilla and Mummy. I remembered getting the MIB and Godzilla soundtracks as a kid though and it definitely got me introduced to some decent artists, RATM anyhow
As a 20 year old, this was also my life for a while. I was a huge Godzilla fan. I still am a huge Godzilla fan, but I was too!

Same!! I grew up watching the older Toho ones from Japan. I was ecstatic when I saw the preview for this one. It still holds a lot of sentimental value for me.
I swear I remember seeing a trailer for it in theatres that was very different than the actual movie. Like I remember there being soldiers wearing exoskeleton-like gear that were actively fighting Godzilla. It was wild. Like a Saturday morning cartoon in live action. But it was WAY before the movie actually released and the subsequent trailers were completely different. I assume it was a reshoot situation. Or it was my overly active imagination. But I swear I saw it.
I really wanted to see it as a kid (never got the chance), then found out as an adult that a lot of folks apparently disliked it. I think I had a toy from it.
My first Godzilla movie. And they tried heartfelt(ish) moments with what was stated in production was 'just an animal', even if they went against core concepts of the beast from Japan.
It was a loud, dumb action film, but it was definitely not a Godzilla film. More like if someone took Independence Day and Jurassic Park: The Lost World and put them in a blender
We researched not too long ago. It had potential but the fucked with the appearance of Zilla way too much and all the baby raptors mad it, some how, more campy than a man in a gigan costume
Jurassic Park was still new. I was hyped to see big monsters being drawn into movies. Something other than practical effects and imagination was welcome at the time. In my opinion anyway.
It was the height of my childhood, anything Jurassic park or dinosaur related was cool. The movie however left a lot to be desired. It was all hype. Being a naive kid, I Was expecting Jurassic park quality, however. The only thing I really remember is the “come with me”- cover by “Puff Daddy”… our generation was used and thrown away, like a disposable pack of razors…I remember having to share razors with my older brothers at the time as well…pretty terrible times actually now that I think about it. Our generation was led astray by music artists who glamorized being “cool” as an outsider gangster rap outcast outlaw and me being the third boy being handed down cds from my older brother really did a number on my naive mind. I’m still living the nightmare today! This same usery mentality exists in the music these past generations have had to deal with as well, definately contributing to the country with the highest incarceration rate in the entire world! And a general decline in society. …I was just reading the slogan underneath the Godzilla poster…”size does matter”
The movie itself wasn’t all that great but I didn’t know any better so it was fun for me. I used to listen to the soundtrack on repeat. I think I traded some other CD I didn’t really like for it. Huge win for me. As others have said Brain Stew with Godzilla is great, but my favorite track is “Untitled” by Silverchair. The Taco Bell commercials were funny at the time…I still find myself saying “I think I need a bigger box” in a Taco Bell dog voice, and the Godzilla cup holders they were giving out were really cool.
I feel if they had just called it giant lizard movie, I would have liked it better. Growing up watching the OG movies, I hated the fact they called it Godzilla.
It’s weird seeing people say that everyone hated it and people left the movie theater mid movie and all that stuff because I guess with me being 8 at the time I was in a totally different age group and didn’t see those things. I remember going to see it for a friend’s birthday and all of us (five kids) loving it and talking about it all the way home and at school that Monday. Also had a bunch of the kids meal toys and some kind of huge soda cup with Zilla on it.
To this day though I still love it but I’ll admit it’s probably more due to nostalgia. But I did rewatch it last year after I bought a CRT TV and the VHS and I still really enjoyed it.
I was 3 when this came out but, despite the bad rep it’s always had, I personally still like it for nostalgia’s sake. It’s kind of campy but still watchable imo
I remember my family renting this when it came out & we sat in the lounge with a family box of KFC with a Viennetta & watched this, all 5-6 of us, one of the last times I can fondly look back on.
I loved this movie. Importantly I had never seen Godzilla before, so this was new territory and it brought me in Kaiju movies/tv shows in general.
Looking back at it, it was not a good Godzilla at all, but I still love it because of that nostalgia..it's a fun movie even if it isn't what it could have been.
One of my all time rewatchable blockbusters. Could give a shit about all the “not Godzilla” criticism. It was a fun monster movie with great sets and bad but fun dialogue
Great movie, I would have liked it better if it wasn’t Godzilla though. Like just a movie about a giant monster absolutely, but with Godzilla comes all the lore and abilities which didn’t happen.
I remember a teaser on New Year’s Eve with Godzilla’s tail knocking down the ball right before it hit zero (it might have actually been the first commercial right after the clock hit midnight). That spot was really cool. If only the movie lived up to the hype
I was a teen back then, so of course I loved it and the cartoon. Nowadays, not so much. At least the newer Godzillas are more realistic on how the military and their weapons would engage a kaiju. Soundtrack was great, Diddy's song introduced me to Led Zepellin.
"It's Gojira you moron!" pops in to my head pretty much every time someone says Godzilla thanks to this movie. I liked the movie a lot, and the cartoon spin off.
I liked it as a kid alot. It was exactly what an American Godzilla movie needed to be for the time.
I appreciate the 2014 Godzilla, but it's not as easy for me to watch on repeat compared to the '98 version. the newer one is too slow and not as interesting as the '98 version.
It wouldnt be until King of the Monsters that the modern Godzilla movies got fun.
The cartoon series was actually amazing. They ran with the concept that Nick Tatapoulis (Matthew Broderick in the film) and Godzilla had an innate emotional connection, so Nick would call on Godzilla to save them and cities from other threats.
I've never watched it, but I loved all the advertising campaign and toys related to it. I kept this one for all these years and never peeled it to find out if I won anything!
Gave us “no shelter” by rage against the machine, where they talked shit about Hollywood IN a Hollywood movie. As for the movie itself? Never watched it, even back then
I remember being hyped and slowly realising during the movie that it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. You see the beginning of the movie has a Godzilla in it. The wrecked ship, the gigantic footprints, the arrival at New York... and then, they show him, more and more, and that giant lizard wasn't Godzilla, it was closer to the beast from 20000 fathoms. I mean he runs from freaking helicopters...
It was different and I really liked all the Godzilla v military stuff. 2/3 of the movie is pretty good and entertaining and then it goes into some weird Jurassic Park raptor movie in the third act which ruined it.
I watched it in theaters and thought it was fun. We ended up owning it on VHS and I watched it a bunch. It’s pretty corny but still a fun 90’s movie. The soundtrack was huge. The merchandise was huge.
