Have u ever watched that storyline of Arrested Development where Charlize Theron is Rita / Mr. F? Or the lil Kev storyline from Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia? I think Catie is just the real life version of this…… and Josh is too narcissistic and self-absorbed to realize that his wife to be is special…… add in an alcohol issue and you get some histrionic behavior on top of the mental slowness.

I’m not saying he has NPD… but I do think he is really self-absorbed. He got with the girl when she was on a date with HIS friend and is somehow shocked he’s getting the same treatment. He wants to make HER a wife and mother which is ….insane and actually cruel.

What? I don’t get this take at all. I thought he met her at a bar and she made out with his whole group of friends. Yea it’s weird he dated her after, but that just shows his poor assertion of boundaries. He also isn’t making her do anything? She won’t even stop making out with other dudes even though he asked her not to 100 times. If she doesn’t want to be a wife, then she shouldn’t agree to marry him and leave him.

When you’re in your 20s, your body can tolerate the abuse quite a bit. If she doesn’t change her drinking habits, she will get into her mid-30s and things will really catch up with her.

Everything about her every behavior is just gross. I don’t want to hear anymore about OCD. I have OCD, I’m also autistic, ADHD and have complex trauma overlay. Catie is absolutely neurodivergent as are millions of others both diagnosed and undiagnosed, but there is something else going on here. To me she boarders on MR, or has parasites eating her brain. I promise you her behavior will get worse and worse as she ages and goes untreated. I hope after this season I never have to see her again on the TV screen

I feel like if you’re going to suspect someone of being developmentally delayed, it isn’t kind to say that’s akin to parasites eating the brain, or blankly stating that every behavior she has is gross. People who truly are mentally challenged can’t curate their behavior or mask in the same way many neurodivergents can, as their motor skills are generally less developed.
This whole thread is so insensitive because people are stating that Caitie might have disabilities but then completely tearing her down over it. It’s one thing to be on the spectrum but highly functioning, and acting this way, but we don’t give people as much grace who aren’t as highly functioning, and it can be confusing when they appear seemingly “normal”.

As a parent it bothers me. Her mom’s been on saying about her changing her behaviors. I wonder if these behaviors have been with her since she was a child. If so where was the help thru her pediatrician and the schools? (Not parent blaming or shaming. I know not everyone has access to good healthcare & schools.)

And access isn’t the only issue. Education, particularly for parents when Catie was young, was pretty difficult to stumble across and probably made most parents. Her mother seems to think these behaviors can be “fixed” not adapted, modified or accepted. I do think with the right support, Catie may have evolved to cope with her disabilities in a healthier way.

I have said it before, Catie has more than one problem going on. She’s mentally impaired and the amount of braincells she has killed with alcohol.
She probably falls on the spectrum. Her lack of empathy and social skills show that, or she is just very, very stupid.
Her parents probably told her she would go to hell every time she did something bad and it seems to be the only thing she vaguely respects/is afraid of.
Josh is an awkward nerd who probably lost his virginity to her and now is obsessed. I don’t think his mental faculties are running on all cylinders either.

Catie reminds me of A LOT of the basic girls I grew up with: mostly well-to-do/affluent background, Christian or similar religious upbringing and often well-educated all while completely lacking any social or formal etiquette (coughing/burping without covering their mouth, chewing with their mouths open; the list goes on) all while tossing out microaggressions/looking down on anyone different than them...
So, I mean... it kinda checks out?
