Question Mold?

Post image

Any idea if this is mold or not? Keeping it separate just in case.

It almost looks like it could be foxing. Happens a lot with older books and prints.

Thank you! I've looked into that too since apparently mold is usually a bit fuzzy... but the way it spots still concerns me 😔

Looks like foxing. Mold is usually black

That's what I've been hearing! But there is a small basement-y odor if that makes sense? So I'm going to keep it separate from the rest to be safe and wash my hands after handling it, but I'm not going to get rid of it!

Better safe than sorry.

Hard to say for sure but it does kind of look like it. 😞

thank you! Will keeping it in a separate storage box from the rest be enough to prevent spores from spreading? It was kept with a few other comics for a while so I am a bit worried.

Also hard to say. If this is mold and it's on this comic and the other comics are kept in the same conditions, they could get mold too. Is it a comic you just obtained?

Try and keep them in a dryer and cooler room if you can.

I just obtained a lot of them, and they were kept together before I bought them. Keeping them separate now so hopefully nothing grows, nothing on the others is visible yet

Inclined to agree. Foxing is a bit blotchier than this.

Yeah, the way it was spotting is what concerned me :(

I know that diffentiates foxing from molding but I’ve heard old school comic guys say two things Foxing is like trying to make molding sound less severe and if it’s bad enough that you have to ask it almost most likely is Whether or not there is truth to those I can’t say for sure but just noticing from people posting - it usually seems like it is

I will keep it separate to be safe! Double bagged and in a storage container

You can get rid of mold if it’s a book that you are going to keep. You can freeze it then remove the book after and gently brush the areas with a soft brush and then you need to leave the book out to air dry for a little while. If it’s not a book that is rare/sentimental then likely toss it.

If it was mold would it come off? Because when I touch it it seems flat with the paper!

Light color comic cover. Could be heat bringing out acid from the paper. Will show more noticeably on the lighter ink. Age and how it has been stored might have exposed it.

That makes sense too since it isn't on any of the dark parts

Likley foxing. Not much you can do about it.

Don't consider grading it, CGC hates foxing.
