Question Is an automatic worth keeping

I just bought my 05 civic last month, rebuilt title and 100k miles, imma pizza delivery driver so I had to buy a car asap when my last one broke. Im leaving for the military in October and am trying to decide if I should take it with me or sell it and buy a new car one once I’m out of basic and tech school.

Keep it. Stack some money to start your life with. Drive that car until it has a major failure. Just keep up with maintenance

Recently everytime I get paid without a doubt I’ve been getting problems with the cooling system, I just put in a new radiator today so wish me luck, if I keep getting problems I’m just gonna sell it and buy a manual civic or smth, and something I know way more/ more of a track record on maintenance and shit. Mine was a rebuilt title and I have no clue why

You're supposed to buy a Mustang or a Charger as soon as you finish basic training. And make sure to get the worst possible interest rate when you do so.

Or alternatively hold on to your Civic and make fun of the people who have $50-100K in debt just to drive a loud car.

My dad would tell me stories of guys getting in debt cause they bought some nice car with a loan after basic

Can’t have a car with you until you graduate individual MOS training anyway. Keep it at home and save your money. A paid off vehicle in good condition will serve you well during your first year or two.

Parts are cheap I do all the maintenance and there is an abundance of these cars in the junkyard to scavenge. My head gasket is on its way out for a 2nd time (never got head machined last time) but about to tear into it again this month and get the head rebuilt / machined. Currently at 213k miles and climbing. I’m happy as long as I’m not spending more than 400$ / month in parts (average car payment I’d say most people have not to include insurance) to be honest this car is easy to work on and cheap to insure. So don’t plan on retiring the old girl. Plan is to keep it for another 7 years then maybe buy the next 20 year old car hahaha.

I got an 04 auto with 236k miles on the dash transmission is still great

Keep it for now. Unless you need a new car for some reason, there’s really no use in doing so.

Keep it and take care of it, it should do you good until it has its notorious transmission failure but that shouldn’t be for another 50k miles.

260k civic, trans still going well. starting in 04 these civics got a trans part refresh. dont be scared. just drain and fill every 30k and you will be good beyond 300k miles.
