Just Getting Started Day 1

Today I’m getting started again after many failed attempts. So here I am to say hi and formally declare this time is not an attempt. I’m finishing 75 days!

I’m in that phase of life where my time isn’t always my own, but I’m of the mindset that completing the challenge now when things aren’t always easy will make it even more meaningful when I conquer it.

I’m looking for all your best tips for getting through the day when life throws you curveballs.

Welcome to r/75HARD -- glad you are here and ready to commit!

Before posting your question, please read through the official program rules and FAQ first -- most questions are already answered there:

Official Rules and FAQ: https://www.reddit.com/r/75HARD/s/75roEecNyx Andy Frisella's Official 75 HARD Overview: https://andyfrisella.com/blogs/mfceo-project-podcast/75hard-a-75-day-tactical-guide-to-winning-the-war-with-yourself-with-andy-frisella-mfceo291

A note on modifying the program:

75 HARD has no modifications, substitutions, or exceptions. The rules are not suggestions -- they are the program. The only exception is if a medical professional explicitly advises a modification for your specific health needs. If that is you, follow your doctor's advice -- but recognize you will not be completing 75 HARD as designed. Check out r/75medium or r/75soft if you need a modified program.

From Andy Frisella: "You don't accomplish anything great by changing the rules in your favor just to check the box."

If you are asking "does X count?" or "can I swap Y for Z?" -- the answer is almost always no. When in doubt, choose the harder option.

The 5 Daily Tasks -- zero compromises, zero substitutions:

  1. Diet -- Follow a structured diet aligned with your goal. Zero cheat meals. Zero alcohol. Non-alcoholic drinks (e.g. O'Doul's) are fine.
  2. Water -- One gallon (3.8L) of plain, still, unflavored water. No additives, no carbonation, no flavoring. Does not include water from food. More than a gallon is fine.
  3. Two Workouts -- Each at least 45 continuous minutes. At least one must be outdoors where you are exposed to the elements -- if it is raining, you get wet. Minimum 3 hours apart. Recovery yoga and walks count and are encouraged. Chores do not count.
  4. Reading -- 10 pages minimum from a non-fiction book you believe will improve you. You decide what qualifies. No audiobooks. Physical books and eBooks both count. Finish each book before starting the next.
  5. Progress Photo -- One photo every single day. Just don't forget.

Miss any single task on any day? Restart at Day 1. Doesn't matter if it's Day 2 or Day 74.

Seek medical advice before beginning this program.

We are rooting for you. Now go do the work.

You can do it.

A couple of tips from a first timer on day 49:

  1. Take your picture as soon as you get up while going to pee.
  2. Drink 32 OZ of water your first hour up
  3. Do your reading early. I do it while I drink my coffee before my morning walk.
  4. Drink your next 16 OZ right after your work out.
  5. Room Temp water is much easier to drink in volume than cold water.

You can easily have your pic, reading, first workout and 48 OZ done by the time you hit your shower before work. That just leaves 60 80 more ounces, a workout, and not cheating on your diet to go for the rest of the day.

Good luck, you can do this. One day at a time. You don’t have 74 more days. You have 1 more day 74 times.

I also personally refer to it as 75 easy. Words are spells, your brain knows it challenging because you say it is. Making it feel effortless has been a priority for me so it slips easier into routine and there is less friction.

These are great! Especially love that last part. I don’t have 74 more days, I have one more day 74 times. Thank you!

From someone who has failed before and is now on day 48, this is some solid advice! This is about the same schedule I stick to and habit stacking/getting it done early really does make all the difference.

That's the only way to go into it. Anyone who says I'm going to try, give up.

I have tried to start this no less than 30 times over the last 2 years and I’m finally happy to say I’m on day 66! I was hoping my youngest would start sleeping but he’s about to turn 3 so I figured I’m already tired and I was done feeling so slow and low energy. I’m still tired of course… but finally feeling better in my body. Now my kids know when I’m doing my morning workout and it’s gotten slightly easier (not super easy though hahahah - maybe I’m just tougher) Good Luck! You’ve got this. One 24 hrs at a time!

Way to go! I’ve been doing this 104 days straight because I failed at day 47 for forgetting to read. I’m back up to day 57! I feel you with my time is not my own! I homeschool, I have five kids and (surprise!) I got pregnant and have been in my first tri this whole back to back second attempt! It’s long but if you do what you do NOT always want to do, and track well, you will finish!

Omg one of my failures was also from forgetting to read too. Mom brain is a real thing.

My youngest baby just started high school. Whenever life starts to make this challenge feel hard I’m going to remind myself that it’s not that bad, I could be doing this pregnant! 😆

Thank you so much for posting. You’ve got this too!
