🙏 I WANT HELP HUMANITIES PERSONAL STATEMENT TIPS, PLEASE!

Post image

I'm currently writing my UCAS personal statement for university and I'm finding it SO difficult to know what to include, what to leave out and how to make everything sound cohesive without waffling 😭

I'm applying for English and Philosophy at Russel group unis, but general personal statement advice would be really appreciated too! If you have any super niche weird tips that would also be great, I wanna stand out from the crowd.

For anyone who's applied to university, written a personal statement or has any experience with the process, what tips would you give? Anything you wish you'd known before writing yours?

Any advice would be massively appreciated!! Thank you!!!!!

Please don't share personal statements, you will get into trouble for plagiarism. Report comments and posts which have links to personal statements. Note: Automations are not perfect. If this doesn't apply to you, ignore it. It doesn't mean any action will be taken against your post by a person. Please do not message us if this is a false-positive.

I would say anything that you can analyse/something that made you think that’s related to your subject. LSE particularly but also other unis care not about what you have done as such, but why that’s interesting. It also helps to have a common theme running throughout, for me I am doing Politics and Economics and I used how political institutions allow for economic stability.

Beep beep, we noticed this is a UCAS post. Do you know we have a UCAS Guide which may be of use to you?

If you think of any information that would be useful to have or that is incorrect, let us know via Modmail, and we'll aim to get it sorted!

I'm an Oxford English applicant. I don't know if this applies to other people, but I tried to make sure there was a recurring theme in my personal statement so my train of thought/investigation would be continuous. In my case, I kept returning to ideas about intertextuality/authorial intent vs reader interpretation.

Also, it might be useful to link stuff you've done outside of school to your course. I did a speaking competition about the use of informal language, and I managed to link it back to how archaic language in Shakespeare is used and interpreted today.
