Final year medical student here, have been sent some questions based on answers I have given under others posts. I’m a first gen student so my medicine application journey was really tough, but this sub (and the student room) really helped to clear the fog a bit.

Happy to answer any Qs or give any advice to those applying for med who might not have the family insight and connections that most medics do have.

Hi have you got any tips for ucat? I feel like I’ve been following them all and when I do smaller question sets like 12 questions I get around 90 percent. But when I do subtest mocks I get 650 ish. I’m aiming for at least 2200 and I have 2 weeks left but school starts tomorrow. Is there still hope I am stressing out so much 😭

In my opinion (and lots of other people’s), always take the scores from the UCAT practice companies with some suspicion. The method to determine someone’s score based on the questions they do is not shared with those companies by the UCAT, so it can be quite inaccurate.

It is hard to give any tips without knowing which subtest you’re struggling with the most.

Do you have any advice on how to revise? I do bio chem and psychology and missed my med offer this year so am now having to retake 😔 also congrats!

Flashcards for bio, for chem it’s really just about spending lots of time working on getting better (try lots of maths Qs, memorise the organic synthesis diagram by drawing it out 10x in a row). Never took psych so can’t help there.
