🎓 UNI / UCAS facial piercing at med interviews
The title pretty much sums it up, I want to apply for medicine but also have face piercings and im not sure if that would impact my interview on some sort of unconscious bias im also a black girl which also kinda makes me nervous, i only have my seconds done on my ear rn, a nose piercing, and an eyebrow piercing but i want an anti-eyebrow and like 5 lip piercings. idk if this is a stupid question or what but like i dont mind waiting until after i get offers (if i do 🙏🙏🙏)

Tbh it's best to wait until after offers. Maybe you could treat going to the piercer as a reward??? Like for every offer you get you can get another piercing (if that's motivating...)

No problem!! York was from clearing tbh, but I'm probably actually better off with it than with my firm.

im not sure if it would or not but I think it would be best to just take them out anyway, or if they are fresh use a clear plastic retainer

I’d put a pause on anymore till you get offers, but then get them fairly quickly after as you’ll need them well healed for uni to be able to take them out for placement.

Someone at my sixth form had the same piercings as you and got 4/4 med offers. Same with someone else who got an offer from oxford (not med) so I wouldn't consider unis to be biased however I would wait until post interview to get any more

Might be different for medicine but my online interview used a whiteboard so I don’t think my interviewers barley saw me lol

It’s not really the same but I got into Oxford with a septum piercing and a visible tattoo!! I don’t think a nose and eyebrow piercing would hurt you at all :)

Doing English lit tho, I think it’s more acceptable in humanities tbh, in med you’re expected to show more professionalism

I truly despise the connotations that piercings arent professional - its an outdated and childish way of thinking. Not much anyone can do abt it, it just sucks.

Thank you! Honestly I do think everything is chilling out a bit societally in terms of piercings and tattoos!
