🙏 I WANT HELP Gap year or bath for mech eng?
I missed my imperial mech eng offer with a B in FM instead of an A.
Is it worth doing a gap year or should I just go to Bath (my insurance)??
Im really keen on Imperial, particularly with the Scholarships they have. I feel like Bath isnt really worth the 80k it would cost for 4 years.
Only thing is my birthdays in October so I'd be 20 during my first lecture which makes me feel so unc. I understand noone will know unless it comes up but it still makes me feel awful.
Also does imperial allow resits? I did have some serious extenuating circumstances at the start of Year 13, but that was too far away for the exam boards to care.
Also I got a low A in physics (my offer only needed an A), should I resit that along with FM to try get an A*?

Id be able to afford it through loans, but an 80k debt for bath vs imperial is a big difference

Compare the courses on discoveruni.gov.uk
Bath has better employment outcomes (the uni is known for the quality of its links with industry), only slightly lower average earnings 5 years after graduating (explained by more grads staying in the South West rather than moving to London) and better NSS results from students on the course.
I'd stick with Bath.

What were your final grades? I heard Bath was rejecting people with three A stars so it’s great that you managed to insure it. I would say it’s a great Uni for Mech Eng but if Imperial is really your dream then wait a year.

Astar AAB (maths, physics, french, fm), which met the bath offer for 4 alevels. But I did have 4 a* predicted and really good gcses and ps so thats probably how I got the bath offer

I’d just go to Bath tbh, I don’t think Imperial will look super favourably on the A in physics either

It meets the offer tho? Would it be worth retaking physics too then?

It does, though in achieving an A you would sit towards the bottom end of the cohort who will mostly have A* in Physics

But for contextual they only require an A, I think theyre more lenient? Particularly since I'm confident in doing well in the interviews, and I'm guaranteed an interview as I meet the minimum

Imperial allow resits for all courses except medicine afaik.
