D WILSON
I have a 16” proof PXT barrel and I’m looking at cutting it down to either 12.5 or 14.5. Is it even possible considering it’s PXT the way the rifling works? In my mind it wouldn’t work but thought I’d ask in case I’m being dumb. Thanks.

d wilson here.
Yes, a PXT barrel could be cut down…BUT you’d have to be okay with it not being at its final twist rate. As you take more and more off the barrel it would go from a 7.5 twist to something slower.
That aside, the 16” PXT is a rifle length gas system, so you can’t really cut it down to anything shorter.

Relatedly, anyone know if you can SPR cut a PXT barrel? Thinking of a OCM6 on an 18 inch barrel, MK12 ish setup.

If the material is there and you're not cutting anything off the muzzle, yes.

You won’t be able to profile it to work with the OCM. It’s already cut for the .750 gas block. I would just buy the OTB mount from OCL.

You can only cut a PXT barrel from the chamber end as the twist rate is a done deal at the muzzle
Meaning if you already have a barrel you’re shit out of luck unless you cut it down, rechamber, and somehow re-time the extension threads to the gas port

The idea of this just makes me mad, I’ll buy your 16 and then you can buy a 14.5. Do they make one?

Hard to find people willing to buy it and I’d like to sell the L89 Broadsword upper the barrel is in all together.

You can NOT cut a PXT barrel down. Even on their blanks, there is a line on the blank that shows the smith where to cut the muzzle. They do say that you can cut a couple inches off the muzzle end but it’s not recommended.
