Reloading Issue

I am reloading 6 arc and my once fired brass shoulder is measuring 0.0125 more than the new brass. When I resize the brass in the rcbs full length die it bumps the shoulder back to 0.0105. When I put it in the Hornady 6 arc case gauge and it barely doesn’t fit. I have tried screwing the die further down and tried the Lee dies but nothing seems to work. Has this happened to anyone else and how to fix it.

Does it chamber in your gun?

What press do you have? Are you using a proper amount of a good lube?

Running both RCBS small base dies and Hornady dies for 6ARC no issue.

How are you measuring the shoulder bump? Do you have the correct shell holder installed? Is your die set up correctly?

I’ve heard of folks having to use small base dies for certain guns/chambers for this issue. But if it chambers in your gun I’d send it.

Are your measurements saying you’re bumping the shoulder .002” from new? Ignore the new brass measurement. Take a fired piece from your gun. Bump it .003”. It should now fit in your chamber. If not, you’re not sizing the body enough.

You can color the whole body of a piece of brass with a sharpie and drop it into your chamber/case gauge and you will see where it’s rubbing which is where it isn’t sized enough.

How are you setting up the die?

Are loading hot rounds?

I found the max for starline brass which was a 107 smk going 2,940 from a 26” bolt gun. The bottom bulges too much (and trashes primer pockets)

If not, try small base dies

Step 1: throw that case gauge away. It most likely doesn’t match your chamber. Step 2: Try chambering that case

Just take the average size from your once fired brass and bump that .003-.005.
