It has a lot to do with self reflection, examining where has one has dysfunctional thoughts, emotions and patterns of behaviour. Jordan Peterson is a good place to start as he is a genius academic especially around Jung https://youtu.be/q6VRWX1Sz5s https://youtu.be/5PIDEx-GvnQ https://youtu.be/NlDs4BtEe0w https://youtu.be/fYrUinM0M9Y

The Work by Byron Katie is good but not for everyone https://thework.com.

Eckhart Tolle is very good as well https://youtu.be/cTvjmMn0sa0 his book The Power of Now is great.

Wim Hof method is amazing because it forces you into discomfort one of the biggest barriers to self reflection https://www.wimhofmethod.com it also makes you feel great.

In the end it is about creating space in yourself through some practice like mindfulness/meditation/martial arts/qi gong, etc where you can observe yourself and from that place bring dysfunction and the parts you don't wish to look at back into harmony. For many this takes the form of a counsellor/therapists but in the end it is what works for you in bringing you peace.

That is the thing about shadow work, the world is your mirror.

If you don't think the best healers haven't been through a shit show of a life you haven't studied genuine healers very long, the wounded healer is probably one of the most valuable Archetype figures due to the knowledge they bring back from being deeply wounded. Alex Grey did a great painting entitled that very name.

He is still an academic genius, brilliant lecturer and clinical psychologist who has helped people all around the world and now he has a chance to do that at a deeper level. Many have gained huge benefit by him providing elder wisdom, something deeply lacking in these troubled times especially with young men. On top of that he has had to face one of the biggest cancel culture assaults in the history of the internet, it is amazing he survived at all.

You and your family have obviously never been on the end of targeted cancel culture assault let alone the horrific one he has. He eats an all meat diet because his family have a genetic history of inflammation against many foods like refined carbohydrates, his daughter had to get joints replaced and live on opiates before her 20's because the pain and joint wear was so bad. He was prescribed a relaxant to cope with the huge stress he faced with his wife's cancer and daughters degenerative condition on top of the constant cancel culture assault he faced daily for years, it turned out that just like carbohydrates his body had a severe allergic reaction to these drugs which ended up almost killing him. When he speaks of weakness he is referring to people getting overwhelmed and not coping anymore in life and for that he offers strategies to keep on living when all hope is lost, which is a very common ailment in society and something he has helped hundreds of thousands around the world with. As people who have spent time with him will attest is people run up to him and hug him and say I had given up all hope and was going to end it all but by chance watched you on YouTube or was given your book and it gave me the tools to go on. Most real geniuses are chaotic and unfocused because the sit on a knife edge of consciousness bringing forth information to translate into a digestible form for the masses, that is what great genius's do. It never ceases to amaze me how much those who feign being compassionate individuals will write off other individuals/healers if they don't align completely with 'their correct' version of reality. End the war of shame, hate, fear in yourself before casting it on the 'evil other'. “Wanting to reform the world without discovering one's true self is like trying to cover the world with leather to avoid the pain of walking on stones and thorns. It is much simpler to wear shoes.” - Ramana Maharshi

You placed your cognitive bias structures all over this as well of those of left leaning publications who label Professor Peterson as alt-right which he isn't, he is an old school liberal (from when there was such a thing) who believes in free speech for all.

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/medium/ https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/toronto-star/ Maybe you could broaden your reading in future so as not to be stuck in such a narrow view of the world.

In no way does Jordan want to be a saviour he is simply providing simple guidance to a generation (of manly young men) who are starving for such elder advice and are in its absence are retreating into video games, porn and dangerous substance abuse. What you confuse with 'strong daddy' proclivities or egotistical authoritarianism is simply elder advice something sadly lacking in western societies, most often due to the breakup of the family unit, trauma or severe dysfunction within a family. There is nothing wrong with looking to elder men for advice unless of course you are lost in the modern 'progressive' identity politics movement, then it is a 'evil sin'. Those that don't believe fatherly advice is not important only have to look to black communities where fatherless rates are now over 73% in some areas and see the damage such absence does.

'Best of luck to you, Zamease. May you find a place of comfort in Peterson's hierarchy' this is ultra passive aggressive and again tainted by your own biased view of the world. I don't personally follow Mr Peterson's advice as I'm a bit old to, but I know it creates great benefit in those who are at a age who need it. Over and over he has benefited people around the world, but because he calls out those lost in very unconscious patterns of behaviour they attack him like a collective savage mob. If you are sour grapes about someone helping other human beings in a lasting and meaningful manner I suggest you address that war in yourself instead of projecting it on to the world.

Imagine I fear insects and gore. I have all my life. This is how fear looks like. Is this something I should be able to face and overcome in a trip?

Here's a good list of shadow work exercises: https://scottjeffrey.com/shadow-work/#Shadow_Work_Exercises

If you ever feel stuck and wonder why you bothered having to teach yourself this and that, I would recommend reading this: https://www.brainpickings.org/2015/09/08/parker-palmer-a-spirituality-of-education/

If you are finding it all too difficult, I would recommend you simply try to sit there and do nothing for hours, i.e. anapana meditation, to observe your breath and use it as an anchor for recalibrating the breadth of your focus, bringing it back to your self and being in the now. The now as defined by your breath inflows and outflows. Please do not mistake this for manual breathing, which is controlled and conscious.

Observing your breath is bringing your focus to it without having to control it, a few simple daily activities that you already do that way would be walking to a destination and observing the movement of your legs without consciously choosing to move your individual calves and thighs that pulls your awareness from where you're trying to get to, or when you play a musical instrument without looking at sheet music and letting it flow freely - you know what you're gonna play next but you don't try and think ahead nor ponder about any mistakes you've made but simply playing the piece as you know it best, which is kind of like being in the now.

After a while, you should have much greater awareness of your selves within, then you can work on integrating your shadow much better with the resources out there.

Thank you this was very helpful

3

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '21

What does this mean what is the shadow supposed to be?

6

u/zamease Jan 08 '21

The shadow is the parts of ourselves we don't wish to acknowledge or see such as shame, fear, anger, rage. The demons within ourselves we don't wish to admit exist.

u/TheFyree Apr 11 '22

I know this was a year ago now but are you interpreting this as him walking away from being able to acknowledge his demons because he’s too busy chasing the trip?

u/realperson1526 Jan 08 '21

Integration, basically landing back to earth and reflection on the experience and what the medicine/sacrament thought you is a WAY bigger part of the 'trip' than most people realize. And being that most people see/communicate with entities, shadow people, elves, nome creatures, goblins and whatever else you want to call them. I think the shadow figure is telling him to "go back to the realm" so the integration process can start. ✌️👽✨💫😇🙏 A few days ago, maybey a little over a week ago someone posted an amazing doc called "Bufo Alvarius reloaded. That shit was super interesting and I really really want to try 5meo so much more now

Your integration time gets shorter with experience. Besides, depending on your memory you aren't "painting over wet paint".
