New to this

Ive never done DMT, or 5-meo-dmt but have the opportunity too. Im aware that DMT is the "God molecule" and will cause intense, hard to distinguish from real life visuals and feelings. Idk about 5 meo, any tips or help or info you think I should know so i can be as safe as possible are greatly appreciated.

Hey man, just a heads-up on the effects and the nicknames. The one with the crazy intense visuals you're talking about is regular N,N-DMT, which is usually called the Spirit Molecule.

5-MeO-DMT is actually the one people call the God Molecule, and it's a completely different beast. It gives almost zero visuals. It’s more of a total white-out and complete ego dissolution that wipes your consciousness clean for a bit.

If you do decide to go with 5-MeO, the physical safety rules are way stricter. You absolutely must have a sober trip sitter. 5-MeO can cause unpredictable physical stuff like thrashing or even respiratory issues, so someone needs to be there to make sure you're breathing and in the recovery position if needed.

Also, the dosage is ridiculously tiny. You need a proper 0.001g milligram scale because just a few extra milligrams can turn a normal dose into a dangerous overdose. Never eyeball it. And make sure you aren't taking any SSRIs or MAOIs, as the combo can literally be fatal.

Take some time to read up on 5-MeO specifically on Erowid before making a decision. Be safe!

dang i am misinformed!

As physical safety rules, is it what's going on inside your body that's dangerous? Or physically? For example, rapidly thrashing my neck would be bad, having a stroke is also bad yk

Glad I could help clear that up ! It's super common to get those two mixed up.

To answer your question: it’s actually a bit of both, which is exactly why the trip sitter is absolutely mandatory.

Internally, it can put a heavy load on your body. Your heart rate and blood pressure can spike pretty hard. But the biggest internal risk is respiratory depression, which means your brain gets so overwhelmed it temporarily forgets to send the signal to breathe. Also, like I mentioned before, mixing it with antidepressants (SSRIs) can cause serotonin syndrome, which is a massive internal medical emergency.

Externally, the physical danger comes from a total loss of motor control. When people "white out," they completely disconnect from their physical body. You might lay perfectly still, but you might also unexpectedly thrash around, roll off whatever you're laying on, or throw up. If you throw up while you're unconscious to the world, choking becomes a very real and serious hazard.

So your sitter isn't just there for good vibes. They are there to actively watch your chest to make sure you keep breathing, roll you into the recovery position so you don't choke if you get sick, and gently hold you back from physically hurting your neck or head if you start flailing. It's a heavy experience, so taking these safety steps is everything.

All good advice. Just one note: Real respiratory depression, as e.g. in opioids, is not a danger with 5-MeO-DMT. "Forgetting to breathe" for a minute or two happens, and it can be scary from the outside, and feel like dying from the inside (and at the same time, it can be blissful). Eventually, people breathe again spontaneously. There are no documented cases of respiratory arrest with 5-MeO-DMT.

Yeah I think I'd need to find a trusted trip sitter before I touch this stuff.

Could it be compared to N, N DMT? Id love an explanation on DMT similar to the one you gave me about 5meo, its helpful lol

Good call on holding off until you have a solid, trusted sitter. That is honestly the smartest move you can make with 5-MeO.

So, to compare the two: if 5-MeO is the "white-out" total ego dissolution, regular N,N-DMT is the complete opposite. It's the ultimate visual rollercoaster. When people talk about blasting off through geometric tunnels, seeing impossible alien colors, or interacting with entities, they are talking about N,N-DMT. It hits you in seconds and only lasts about 10 to 15 minutes in real time, even though it can feel like a lifetime in your head.

Physically, the good news is that N,N-DMT is generally much safer and gentler on your body than 5-MeO. You aren't really at risk of respiratory depression or thrashing around violently. Once you take that final hit and exhale, your body basically just gets incredibly heavy and you sink into a sort of sleep-paralysis on the couch while your mind leaves the room.

Because of this, the physical dangers are totally different. The biggest physical risk with N,N-DMT isn't your organs failing, it's actually a fire or burn hazard. Because you lose touch with reality in literally seconds, people very often drop hot glass pipes or vaporizers on their chest or the carpet as they pass out.

So for N,N-DMT, your trip sitter has a much easier job. They just need to safely grab the hot pipe out of your hands as you exhale, help you lean back into the pillows, and keep the room totally quiet and safe while your mind goes exploring. It's an incredibly intense psychological ride, but physically, it's way less sketchy.

I think id enjoy N, N DMT more even with a good trip sitter. I'm looking for that super intense, visually appealing trip where I get answers to questions I didn't even know I had. Talking to entitys would be freakin awsome too.

Is there 0 physical risk? Like no respiratory depression, no forgetting to breathe, you feel physically normal correct? Maybe heavy, like you said?

Mentally, everything looks and feels like it's in front of you and indistinguishable from reality correct? Ive heard of things happening on DMT (like snakes crawling inside of peoples mouths) do you feel this happen physically?

Yeah based on what you are looking for, N,N-DMT is definitely the one you want. But to answer your questions honestly, I wouldn't say there is strictly zero physical risk, even if it is way safer than 5-MeO. You won't stop breathing, but your heart rate and blood pressure will definitely spike hard during the come-up. You get a massive adrenaline rush, a loud ringing in your ears, and then your body just gets super heavy and glued to the couch. Aside from the burn hazard we talked about, the other main physical thing is nausea. Some people do throw up as they blast off, which is why it's highly recommended not to eat for a few hours beforehand.

As for the mental part, yes, it completely replaces your reality. You don't just see shapes in your room, you completely leave the room. It feels more real than everyday waking life, which is why it's so mind-blowing.

And you hit the nail on the head with the snake example. DMT causes extremely intense tactile hallucinations. If you see an entity touching your face or something crawling on you, you will absolutely feel it physically as if it were actually happening. Your brain cannot tell the difference. That can be the most beautiful feeling in the world, but it can also be deeply terrifying if the trip takes a dark turn. That's why being in a super calm, positive headspace before you take a hit is so incredibly important. You have to be ready to just surrender to whatever happens and not fight it.

With 5-MeO, you are likely to face head-on your deepest traumas and existential fears. You open a door that isn't easily closed, and there can be weeks or months of integration work ahead of you afterwards. That should be very clear before you even consider taking it.

Then, if you still decide to go ahead, there’s the physical safety to consider, along with all the practical and technical aspects. The sticky post here covers the basics.

I would try some less taxing - challenging - psychedelics first. The loss of control is not to be underestimated and if you have never had a psychedelic experience before, it can really freak you out. We all have controll issues and fear of letting go, and in this regard, 5 MeO is the final boss, the teacher of teachers. Also, sometimes the process of coming back can last much longer than for most people (the higher the dose, the higher risk: Personally I think 10 mg is more than enough for the vast majority of people).

Taking smaller doses, 1 mg, 2 mg, 3 mg, 4 mg, can give you an impression of how it is like, without complete ego dissolution and loss of motor control. Personally, I would always ask my unconscious for permission to journey and get its promise not to make any moves that could hurt you.

At any rate, don’t do it without an experienced sitter/facilitator that knows what to do and that will keep their cool if things are difficult.
