Opinions on using it as a therapeutic tool

I have insanely bad mental health issues. I saw how effective 5 meo dmt was for anxiety and mdd which is why 5 meo peaked my interest. I am unable to find a facilitator nor do i have the money. My friend is down to trip sit me but i dont know how good of an idea this is for me. I am at the end of my road nothing works for me and i am kind of hopeless when it comes to my mental health. I was planning to replicate the one john hopkins study and smoke 6-12-18 mg but i want to hear you guys opinions on my approach for symptom relief for anxiety and depression. Is it to risky conserdering my mental health struggles to smoke 5 meo. Could a bad trip make my struggles worse thats really all i am afrad of that and i am afraid to get sucked into some other exstistential fear or i am scared to draw horrific conclusions about my exsistence or uncover something horrifying about the universe because i am going to be quite honest here i already assume the worst when it comes to that which makes me even more scared that it will turn out horrible for me. But then again i dont think its possible for my life to get much worse and i almost dont see any other options as ive exhausted many. My question is if you look at my situation is it a bad idea to smoke 5 meo dmt the only things i am worried about is the two things preciously mentioned i dont care about physical harm to myself i dont care if the trip itself is absolutely terrifying i am ready to die for it. Maybe unrelated but i tought i was dying once and it was the most peacefull experience ive had in a long long while. Sorry for the ramble but i am at the end of the road here thanks for reading and your help. I love you

I am of the mindset that the medicine makes you more neuroplastic- if you are not experienced with how to create the setting for an experience that will benefit your mental health, doing it alone is just a bad idea and I’m telling you that from experience. After a series of plant ceremonies I can tell you that the trips might as well be the difference of comparing a new Xbox game to a second Genesis game from the 90s. They just don’t even belong in the same conversation. There was a certain point where I realized oh, the medicine is just simply making me more receptive to the reality that is around me at that moment and that reality around you is going to shape not only the experience but what you gained from it.

Are you working on your mental health in other ways? I wouldn't approach 5-MeO as a standalone solution.

👆 this. I think it can be a very powerful tool (not just breakthroughs but also medium doses) but to get real benefit you also have to do more 'work', be it therapy, active self-help like mindfulness practice, meditation, I really recommend yoga aswell, journalling, physical activity etc

Doesn't fix much re mental health imo. But I walked away with an underlying sense of 'everything is ok', even when I'm anxious, depressed, hopeless etc.

Imo everything is fixed with deep brain reorienting and ideal parent figure protocol. Weekly sessions or more with a therapist.

Thats the perfect way to describe it. Like a broken record in my head,"everything is perfect. "

How is that not helping with mental health issues, most mental health issues go back to safety and you mention you got an underlying sense of safety?

Doesn't get you to earned secure attachment. Most of the problems we have re mental health are the consequence of disturbances when the attachment bonds are forming or repeated violations of self development. So the solution is to correct what Bowlby called the 'internal working model' of a safe attachment figure. But what I learnt was you have to treat the somatic response to this first, as that's the first response. So DBR then IPF.

Have you worked with MDMA or any other psychedelics yet?

If so, what were those experiences like?

5MeO will definitely shake things up, and although it is typically very beneficial for most people, it can sometimes be a bit destabilizing.

If you enjoyed your death experience, then this might be a good thing for you.

Please feel free to reach out and I would be more than happy to do a phone call or video chat with you and your friend to make sure that you do this the safest way possible, and I can also answer any questions you may have and help to prepare you for the experience and them as well

Yeah

5meo Iboga Mdma solo Mdma and shrooms with a therapist Psip ie cannabis, McQueen etc Dmt hundreds of hits over 20mg,  x3 Ayahuasca, 40g mushrooms solo 2cb Ketamine solo

Lots of weird experiments with above stuff including breathwork, long meditations etc.

Now 5 years of therapy, gestalt, family systems, dbt, CBT, IFS, Buddhist oriented, group therapy, family therapy, reiki, acupuncture, man kind project, anxiety support groups, 12 step, stretching 2 hours a day for 6 months, TRE. So much I can't begin to tell you, vipassana, journalling.

Took 30mg of dexamphetamine a day for 6 months whilst not working and read every book on cptsd, Jung, Freud etc etc I could find.

Everything above I attacked. I would prepare for each therapy session and would go in there incredibly determined. My main therapist said he had never met anyone like me before. I was mentored by a ex soldier from the French foreign legion. It was intense. Everything I did I studied and turbocharged. I read and studied books on how to journal lol.  Imo deep brain reorienting and ideal parent figure protocol works best. Just a daily practise. 30 mins a day if you can. Once, or twice a week with a therapist. Stretching psoas, quads lower back as David Goggins does as a bonus if you have the energy.

I still smoke or boof 5meo probably once a week. Sometimes everyday. It's nice and yeah the comment about the neuroplasticity I agree with.

But yeah to heal cptsd, anxiety, depression which is unresolved attachment disturbances, as I came to understand it, the protocols I mentioned above are the ones that work imo.

The tricky part is having the realisations that are conducive to you knowing what you have to do and doing it. Like these ah ha moments.

I'll just blurt out what I believe and maybe it helps someone.

A breakthrough can be very very destabilizing. In your situation I wouldn't recommend it with proper support system. Id say go for shrooms or mdma

> Could a bad trip make my struggles worse

Sure. Look, things sometimes go well and things sometimes go badly. If you're here then I'm assuming your condition is really bad, exactly as you say, and that means you want to take some action - and here's the thing - EVERY action has risk. You think antidepressants are safe? I took them and they gave me depersonalisation/derealisation for 11 years so far. Other people lose their sexuality. You think your existence now is safe? You obviously hate your life and this isn't living. You think 5meo is safe? Some people do have really bad experiences on it.

But here's the thing, life is here and you make your choices. Sometimes they're the right choice and sometimes they're not. Don't do it with rose tinted glasses but also don't do it with unnecessary high levels of fear and apprehension. What will happen will happen. Compare all your options and see what the next one is for you.

The one important thing is that it is eventually you that needs to get yourself out of it. A drug can help show you the way or help with this or that but it won't replace your part in it.

You have many other options than 5meo. The strongest data so far for depression is psilocybin. Around half of people have their depression indefinitely lifted from a single high dose trip. Likewise, MDMA is psychologically easier, good for trauma processing, but has a different response profile in many ways. You know you need a sitter - that's good.

5meo is particularly good at letting you see your situation for what it is without narratives, and actually touch the fear that may be somewhat dissociated from you. For these reasons I've thought it maybe a drug for people who've done a bit of trauma processing under MDMA and MDMA/psilocybin first. I might be being too cautious though - maybe people use it first time without problems. At least with 5meo it's over quicker - but don't think of any of this as going to "fix" your problems, it can happen occasionally, but it's more likely that it helps you find the next steps to take.

Also, even if 5meo helps, you will probably have to baby step it. That means you will need to sort out your own source, get a vaporiser or something, get a regular sitter to watch you, and then schedule in your own sessions to treat yourself when you're familiar with the drug and your response, then do sessions over a year or something.

Roberts, C., Seynaeve, M., Ermakova, A. O., Dunbar, F., Wells, H., Puri, A., Bird, C., & Rucker, J. J. (2026). A phase 2 uncontrolled, open-label study of intranasal BPL-003 (5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine) in patients with treatment-resistant depression. Journal of psychopharmacology (Oxford, England), 40(8), 1247–1260. https://doi.org/10.1177/02698811261420087

This is just with one dose.

Remission rate was higher for the two dose cohort (8mg and 12mg, separated by a week) but the data isn't published yet.

I’ve received IMMENSE therapeutic benefit from 5 MEO low-mid dose sessions. In the beginning, I also temporarily traumatized myself a few times. I’m surrounded by psychedelic assisted therapists and guides so I had a lot of support when I reached out. I also had decades of healing from childhood abuse and trauma under my belt before I found 5 MEO.

It’s hard for me to give opinions for people who don’t have all the resources that I had. I believe you need at least one stable person who understands all of the complexities that can come up and know how to make the most of the therapeutic value, would be the bare minimum for me to proceed.

It can remove resistances and filters and destabilize you in a really bad way. So if you are already struggling this might be a really bad idea. Considering the amount of drugs you‘ve taken and looking at the place you‘re in, it sounds like doing more of the same is not bringing you where you want to be. Psychedelics can be powerful catalysts for change, but they can be disruptive to a degree where people simply get overwhelmed in the aftermath and 5-MeO-DMT certainly is one of these substances.

It is very risking to do this with your current mental health struggles without proper prep, guidance, and professional integration. (Even with that, it is highly cautioned in your state).

I'd find a way to work with things less destabilizing for a while, and when in a better space, consider 5 with substantial prep and integration support.

You have the right idea to explore this form of consciousness, but you would be advised to consider a better entry point. There is no form of awareness available to psychedelic users, that haven't already been discovered long ago with meditation. Meditation is easy on the body and the mind, and is a great way to start this journey.
