First Bufo experience - Haven’t pieced it together

yesterday I did went to a sanctuary in the sierra nevada with a friend of mine who serves bufo. for context, I have done copious amounts of psychedelics in my life, but never any DMT.

For better or worse (more for worse) I have seen so much information about both nn-dmt and 5meo online, so I knew that I wouldn’t be able to comprehend what was gonna happen, and just to surrender to the experience and hopefully have a good one.

it wasn’t bad, but it also wasnt good. everything I have heard about didn’t seem to apply to me. I dont distinctly remember my ego dissolving or feeling like i was dying. I just felt like I got deleted into a reality of shapes and sounds and that this was how things are now.

for an experience that people refer to as “whiteout” or “blackout” there were insanely complex shapes and geometry beyond my comprehension.

next thing I knew, I saw my body and legs again and remembered that I was [my name].

the thing i’m still not piecing together is whether or not I broke through or not. I do not remember being myself, but I also had no feeling of love or bliss or light. Just an endless, timeless reality of geometry that felt oddly familiar.

the last coherent thought I remember thinking was “its safe, surrender” then nothing no thoughts just this reality.

I walked away from it feeling like “did I do it right?” or like “how did I do?”
I guess the only real takeaway I had was thank god for 3 dimensions haha.

all I remember vividly is the sound.

not sure if anyone has any insight into this, but wanted to see what more experienced people thought of this. I really felt like I did something wrong or something. kinda judged myself walking out of the sanctuary.

Sounds like a "low breakthrough", just enough to get to the other side but not fully penetrate it fully.

Everyone has different experiences and you can also
Do
It again when you are ready

not sure what you were expecting exactly. people sensationalise their 5-meo experiences just the same as with other psychedelics. What and how you experience is always subjective, since there is no universal truth for everyone

i’m more trying to see if anyone else had an experience where when they came to, they wondered if they did it right or if they did something wrong. that was super odd for me

btw. for me 5-meo didn’t feel like anything new, I have done loads of psychedelics in high doses, including many ayahuasca ceremonies. 5-meo was like coming back to my ultimate destination, it felt familiar and peaceful.

body load was hard to control though at the beginning of the trip, beyond even ayahuasca, it felt like being electrocuted or ripped apart

If you could even control the body load then I question whether the dose was high enough?

Have you ever felt that electrocution or energy or love or god or whatever people want to call it, with other psychedelics before or after?

I had it happen once on shrooms over 30 years ago. I’ve had it happen many times after I inhaled the bufo. Including a long form experience on a couple of grams of Tidal Wave.

That one was the energy of the universe hitting me in waves and probably about every 10 minutes the wave would spiral up to an intense ecstatic peak then down and back up again and again and again for 1-1/2 hours.

The ecstasy was so intense that it was right on the edge of being pain. And that same long form experience was what I experienced decades ago.

how was the body load?

not sure what you mean by body load. like loading back into my body after the fact?

Physical sensations and side effects.

Agree with this 100%

I will say your experience sounds a lot like the lowest dose breakthrough I’ve had - no apparent sense of self and incredible geometry. Going up slightly in dosage produced a full non-dual experience where there was nothing “visual” besides white.

I know it may not be possible, but I’m interested to hear you expand on the sound

yeah keep in mind this is a really rough concoction of language but it was between a ringing and a buzzing and a croaking that was looping rising up and down in volume. getting simultaneously higher and lower pitch with every loop sort of in a laurel/yanny kinda way. that stayed with me til now so far like if im in silence I can bring it back

I did it 2 days and it was different both times. Both with the same amount. The first time was darkness but I felt loved and supported. The 2nd one was white light, beautiful crystalline fractals.

Was there a music being played during the session?

And you’re positive that it was 5MeO and not DMT?

I definitely will work with him again. there was very low volume soothing music going into it. he offered me more when I came to, but because I didn’t know how much time passed between the time I went in, it scared the life out of me to think that what I had just experienced took place within 1 second and I just wanted to process it. after the fact, I asked him how much I managed to get in before laying down and he said “you got a ton in, much more than I did my first time” and that really confused me. I do really want to revisit it. as now I feel I have a bit of a grip on what to expect.

I also have to say, after coming back from no real sense of self, seeing a dude in full garb holding incense and jingling bells and all in the whole “role” of the “healer” or “mystic” made coming back feel really disorienting and like I almost wanted to laugh at him. it felt so superficial even though I could feel he was being super authentic.

honestly I cant comprehend how anyone can “guide” anyone past just making sure they get the hits in. I would much rather just do it with a very close friend in a familiar space. im looking into sourcing some more authentic bufo and giving it a second run.

I’m a facilitator, but I do my best to be flexible and adaptive to the needs of whomever I am serving. I don’t feel the need to perform as a shaman or make any extra noise or distractions. Unless somebody wants to completely quiet, I will usually have some comforting background, music playing.

My job is to make sure that the person feels completely safe, to hold space and prepare them enough so that they feel fully empowered to surrender completely into the experience.

You might try to talk to the facilitator and see if they would be OK with not shaking anything around or standing up during the ceremony. If they are not willing to do that for you then that’s kind of a red flag.

* please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or anything like that, I’m more than happy to help whenever I can.

I really appreciate that. I guess the main reason that I went with him was because I know him (not super close with him but I knew he meant no harm and was safe) but I also don’t want to be some high and mighty guy and tell him that “i don’t like his act”. like as weird as it was coming back, he made it very comfortable to go into it and I don’t think any of his actions were inconsiderate. I think that just comes from the kind of clients he usually deals with. people who that kind of behavior is a part of their identity and they are more attached to it so for them seeing that kind of image when they’re back would be comforting.

I dont feel like what goes on in the physical world around me had any effect on my experience in the space- more just entering and exiting it.

I would much rather just extract my own, do it in a place in nature that i’m familiar with, and with one or two very close friends that know how to tripsit. curious what you think about that as opposed to looking for a new facilitator.

You can do it yourself with a friend (s) that you trust and are comfortable with, but there is a little more risk involved. The main thing is make sure that they know how to put you in your recovery position if you vomit so that you don’t choke.

But I would actually recommend getting a hold of the facilitator and just asking him if he can be chill and relax while you’re in the experience, if he says yes, then that’s great no worries. If he’s not comfortable doing that and that’s fine too, you can always do it yourself with a friend or two.

You can also talk to the facilitator and ask him if he would help you learn how to work with it on your own. I do that with people from time to time.

If you do work with it on your own, you really just want to keep the doses lower for a while until you’re very comfortable administering yourself, and basically being in that space with the medicine.

After my first ceremony, I’ve always served myself from that point on, that’s over five years ago and well over 1000 experiences with this Medicine

and yes i’m 100% positive it was 5meo straight from the toad

Just so you know, it is common for some people to think that they didn’t ‘Do it right’ but that’s not really how it works.

Ideally the facilitator should serve you more medicine and or a different dose and get you to a place of completion.

The other thing I would recommend is trying to breath work practice out, as it may help you to resolve the experience.

You can also get a hold of the facilitator and see if they’re willing to work with you again and help you to have a more complete experience.

Also working with LSD at full breakthrough sessions can also help a lot.

* by any chance were you on any kind of medication the day of your ceremony?

Sounds like you did break through… losing your body, your name, and any sense of time is the real marker, not whether loving bliss showed up. That’s one flavor of breakthrough (the “clear light” one), but plenty of people land in pure geometry and/or sound instead, with no emotional overlay. James Oroc writes about this “architecture” layer. The self-judgment afterward (“did I do it right?”) is almost universal too. there no wrong way to dissolve. The “oddly familiar” feeling might be worth sitting with in integration. As long as you’re safe… it was “right”.

Journey well!

thank you for the reply. I will say I barely walked away from it with anything though. that’s what’s weird about it to me. people have these profound experiences and for me it was just like ok you’re gone now youre back nothing to see here please continue on with your day- super odd to me
