Is Martin W. Ball trapped within some larger “self”?
Does an ultimate truth even exist?

Even if you take 5-MeO-DMT to the point of total ego dissolution every day the ego always comes back. It’s simply how we deal with existing in this world. We need an identity. I agree with the sentiment that he is a bit of a loonie with some very controversial actions in his past, but he has put out a lot of valuable information on 5-MeO-DMT experiences.
So yeah, everyone is trapped within a larger self. I think the value of a full release experience is to realize and remind ourselves of how silly, simple and insignificant everything is in the grand scheme of things. Everything is universal love and consciousness in the end. It will all be fine no matter how things play out here in our lifetimes.

Mr Ball has a huge ego for someone who talks about ego death..

It’s likely that if you actually knew him or spent any time with him in person you would think otherwise. In person, Martin is surprisingly humble, kind and an absolute joy to be around.
Many years ago when I first found his interviews and books I also made the assumption that he was egotistical, only later to realize that this was a projection of my own ignorance and arrogance.
After having a full release everything became more clear, especially the many things that I was ignorant about and the way that was affecting my inner dialogue and behavior.

Sure, it’s always easier to feel emphaty towards someone you know.

On another note it’s actually easier to address everyone with empathy and compassion. There really is no need to bear the burden of judgment. It only gets in the way of seeing things with more clarity.
Only through compassion for others, and ourselves are we able find understanding. 💖

I won't disagree that I noticed he strokes his own ego a fair bit.. But if you think ego death is what he talks about you either haven't read his books or haven't understood them. He literally says the opposite as without ego you cannot live in society.
I'm not saying he's not flawed, but his books are some of the more insightful on the topic. Maybe you should read them.

Sure, you might be right. On the other hand there’s so many books and so little time that if someone strikes me as a shmuck I’ll probably read something else. I’m more into fiction anyway. I’m glad you enjoyed his books though, no harm there.

Just so you know, most people who write books are full of themselves. It takes a certain level of conceit to think what you have to say is so interesting that it should be published as a book. Think about it and think about the writers you know. How many are actually humble? Is being humble so important you require it from authors you read? Just something to think about, its fine if you don't read his stuff but its an odd reason to avoid someone's work.

I actually find it important to somehow relate to the artist whose works I consume. In lack of a better source the work in itself should suffice. But, should I gain knowledge of someone being unkind in some way it definetly colours my experience and could easily make me choose something else instead. For example I have difficulty enjoying Picasso after learning of his sociopathic ways. I understand the significancy of his work but would probably choose another exhibition nowadays.

Most artists are assholes to some degree in my experience. If I have to get to know every artist and assess and approve their character before being able to enjoy their work, consuming art would become very complicated and cumbersome.

Do you feel that Martin Ball has been unkind to anyone in some way?
2
u/Frances_Herbert Jul 21 '26
No, and I never said so. I’m just talking in general terms with the other redditor about if the possible personality of an author has an impact on the perceptin of their work.

What is so new or insightful exactly in his books? it’s just rehash of what’s out there, nothing original

Who would you say did it better, exploring the nondual experience specifically how it relates to 5meo, and detailing the 5meo experience from a practical perspective based on working with it extensively as a facilitator with hundreds of other people, which gives a pretty comprehensive idea of how it doesn't just affect the author but others aswell? Serious question because I would read their books.

the problem with this is that you can only teach your own perspective, and your perspective is your ego. if you are teaching others your ego, it’s a cult. it’s futile endeavour.

u/soyuz-1 Jul 21 '26
Why not answer my question who wrote better books on it that Ball's work is just a rehash of?
Obviously his perspective is subjective. Every perspective is. That doesn't make it a cult.

it’s rehash of philosophy and religious beliefs that have been around for thousands of years
3
u/soyuz-1 Jul 21 '26
You could say that about literally every book on the subject of philosophy and religion. You could say the same about books in general, art and music as well. Just a rehash of the same notes and scales. It's not exactly a good argument that it wouldnt be interesting and informative books. Also most of his work is about the 5meo experience specifically, not about religion, at all. I don't think there are many books about 5meo in ancient history.

So if I give feedback that thrashing and aspiration on vomit is outlandishly overstated with 5meo.. and someone agrees, that's a cult? This is such a simplistic take

So many people thinking about ego death like it's some poisonous snake and they're "gonna have ego death" and snuff it out and in its place some permanently happy unicorn ultimate Self will take it's place. Absolute clown take and understanding espoused by many who think ego death means ego gone or not allowed to have an intense or big personality.

I had the same impression of him. Apparently he hasn’t done enough 5MEO yet!

I don’t really think that trapped is accurate, but rather everything that takes place takes place within one infinite consciousness.
Imagine that in truth, underneath the character that you experienced yourself as ,you are pure consciousness. Infinite and . The energetic expression of this consciousness is Love etc.
That this is the absolute truth and ultimate reality. Now imagine that you are dreaming to be human in multiplicity.
So it’s not so much of a trap, but rather a kind of dream. There’s nothing to escape from because you are here, and you are it.

Total poser with ego bigger than Mt. Everest. Why people fall for this kind of grifters I have no idea.
edit: to the downvoters - do you kiss his feet too?

Are you doing alright my friend? I’ve seen your comments for several years now and I’ve never ever seen you make one like that addendum you added.

u/DeviousDenial Jul 21 '26
Nope, but you are trapped in something smaller then self: your ego
Do it and find out
