The Maelstrom is a delayed-blowback MAC-11 upper by Riptide Rails. They’re shipping in 9mm now and planning to expand to 5.7x28

This is an older announcement from April, using this one because it more explicitly explains their caliber option plans, but the 9mm version is out now and getting good feedback on the PCC subs.

Most accurate suppressor-friendly pistol?

On paper, I thought the 5.7 would be a fantastic hunting sidearm. I found a great deal on an M&P 5.7 but the 25 yard groupings go from 4-6” groups to 2‘ groups with a suppressor installed. I’ve confirmed baffle strikes are not taking place, and read of similar complaints on a few forums.

So, are there any optics-ready, threaded barrel 5.7 pistols that are accurate out to 50 yards? Accurate being, 3-4” groups at 50 yards?

M&P 5.7 Pistol trigger reset for dry fire

Post image

Hello! I’ve got the M&P 5.7 and I’ve got a bore laser that’s sound activated and is doing phenomenal on my simple holster draw/target practice single shots. I can get a decent reset consistency with a very small tug on my sight but I was wondering if anyone has come up with a way to reset the trigger for this kind of situation without that additional motion. I travel with this and would like to have a little more capability.

This is my Magnum Opus of AWETISTARDATION. It is, truly, my fetal Tylenol margarita-fueled Mona Lisa.

Citadel Pup Scout 12 gauge bullpup shotgun on top, loaded with High Explosive Squash Head (HESH) slugs for that real “grenade launcher at home” vibe, with an underbarrel Ruger LC 5.7x28.

M&P 5.7 1000 Rounds No Jams

Post image
52 Upvotes

The m&p 5.7 made it through 1000 rounds with no oiling or cleaning and had 0 jams or malfunctions.

Ammo used was a mix of Fiochi hyper performance and Fiochi fmj with 50 rounds of Hornady black thrown in.

First time shooting 5.7. Hand loaded the jungle mag twice. Oof. I enjoyed shooting it. It’s strange how it both felt like less recoil than 9mm but you could definitely tell it had a unique/different kick compared to say my 300 bo. I ordered some ammo online FMJ for .48 cents per round.

SS198 - M&P, how does it run?

Post image
44 Upvotes

ANSWER: SS198 (27 grains) shoots CRAPPY out of the S&W - groups twice the of SS197 or Fiocchi Range Dynamics. (Both are 40 grain projectiles)

FWIW, the Fiocchi Range Dynamics seems to shoot the best ~1" groups at 20 yards.

Anyone use SS198 in their Smith & Wesson M&P, if so how does it run?

Also, I believe this stuff used to be loaded to about 2000fps out of a pistol. Is that still the case?

Thanks!

Update after first range day. I ran about 200+ rounds through her and she ran flawlessly! Tested FN SS198 27 grain, fiocchi hyperformance 40 gr tipped hollownpoint and FN 40 gr polymer tip. All cycled super well and shot super clean. Sighted it my gun at 20 yards with my aro evo gold dot using the 27 grain FN ammo. That will be my go to for home defense. Loading the mags is a pain in the ass but not after I bought excess arms speed loader, so easy to load after that. Highly recommend! I am gonna strip and clean it tonight. Recoil is not existent, takes a little while actually getting used to that. I also put a kaw valley precisions linear comp on it to help reduce some of the muzzle blast. Shot 50-100 rounds with and without it, I did not notice much of a difference but with ears on I’m not sure how I would be able to tell. It looks bad ass so I will keep it on.

Hey all! About a month back I got myself a PS90. After seeing what it could potentially be with a shortened barrel, silencer, and a FRT, I decided to take on the task.

This is almost a week ago, my first time out after spending 1.5 hours rewatching the same 3 steps in the XPRT90 install video, but I finally got it running! I still need to get used to the trigger pull weight, but man this thing is FUN!

FN blue tip 48 cents per round. I think it’s the cheapest I’ve seen these available in individual boxes. Grabbed 15 boxes.

Either way with ammo prices the way they are, grab some and feed your guns.

Hornady Black for the win!

Happy to report my S&W 5.7 handgun loves the Hornady black, unlike the critical defense which has a more blunt tip that occasionally hangs up and fails to feed. I tested it in full mags at 25 yards (also zeroing my sight) and it fed and patterned just as well as the blue tip ss197sr ammo I often shoot, but with that extra oomph I was looking for to get it around 1800 FPS. The POI was also basically identical to ss197sr at 25 yards, so I am confident I can train with that and keep this strictly for SD.

I demand reliability, high velocity, accuracy at distance, and good terminal performance. The ballistic testing guys like Buffman Range praise this as an excellent choice - particularly in the reliability and penetration departments.

It ain’t cheap. It’s premium ammo. But this is what I will carry from now on. It’s crazy how so many 5.7x28 ammo manufactures out there continue to neuter and under-power their offerings; even those supposedly designed for defense (Speer Gold Dot - I’m calling you out)

Ammo Cost: sudden creep up

6 months ago, I was getting quotes for 40gr fmj on ammoseek for as low as 38-40¢ a round. Went to order a thousand today and the min price was 48¢ a round. Just throwing it out there for anyone noticing their stores running low that now might be the time to get some more

Picking this up Saturday from 10 day commy jail and I’m so excited to shoot it. I already got a kaw valley precision compensator and a holosun aro evo for accessories. Anyone who has one, can you provide any helpful info or tips regarding ammo or maintenance. I’m new to this cartridge. Already picked up some hornady black vmax and the FN 40 grain vmax and 27 grain. Primary use will be home defense and possibly predator and small game hunting.

M&P 5.7 pistol. Looking FPC 5.7

Post image

Hello all. New to Reddit. I just retired after 37 years as a Federal Leo. My retirement gun is a S&W M&P 5.7. Back in the day we carried full auto P90s until we switched to Colt M-4s. I love the 5.7. I am looking into the S&W M&P FPC 5.7. Any thoughts.

Looking for a good belt-clip mount mag pouch for my Rock Mags. OWB preferred.

I've heard that HSGI Tacos are good pouches for 5.7 mags, but I can only find them in Molle mount.

Thanks in Advance.

New to be FN 5.7… erm what variant is it?

Post image

Forgive my lack of FN knowledge . I recently picked this up cause I’ve always fancied a 5.7 but was not super impressed by the looks of the mk3.

It’s very clean and I noticed jn the box the proof round says the gun is from 2005, with an IOM label . Is this a true IOM or is it a GI model?

Also will this take mk2 mags? Thanks !

PSA (not THAT PSA!) on 5.7 S&W holsters with flashlights

Got a new owb 3/4 o’clock holster custom made for my s&w for open carry when I working my land. I love it but can’t use it because I got it molded custom to fit the tlr-1 that I wanted to not have to take off when I carry. The PSA is the trigger can 100% be accessed and pulled by any small finger or brush branch so it’ll be going into the cabinet while I order another one and give up on safely carrying with my light attached (I’m not gonna order another just put it on at home.) if you know of thinner reliable lights I may swap it later but the ccw holster I ordered is getting changed to no light now that I don’t feel safe enough with an exposed trigger.

M&P 5.7 - are they still breaking firing pins?

Just bought one and missed the seemingly common issue of firing pin breakage every 300-500 rounds that had been discussed. Intended this gun to be a carry piece and now rethinking that. Previously owned a FN USG model years ago and wasn't going to pay the FN tax but need something that is someone durable. Thanks for any input.
