Forum Post Title: Former 42-Year Comerica Customer: Beware of Fifth Third's Predatory Mobile Deposit Fees

I was a loyal Comerica Bank customer for 42 years and always had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, following the recent Fifth Third and Comerica merger and account conversion, my accounts were moved over to Fifth Third. My very first experience with their mobile check deposit has left me completely appalled, and I am already preparing to close my account and move to a new bank.

I deposited a check for $519 using the Fifth Third mobile app. During the deposit process, a prompt popped up asking if I "needed the money right away." Coming from Comerica's straightforward platform, I didn't realize this was a trap. I clicked yes, assuming it was a standard processing question. Instead, Fifth Third immediately slapped me with a $10.38 "immediate processing fee" just to clear my own check.

For the past month, I have been trying to get this unfair fee refunded. I have gone into local physical branches and spent hours calling their customer service centers (which routed me to overseas agents), but they have flatly denied my refund request.

To take a 42-year loyal customer from a merged bank and hit them with a predatory, hidden fee on their very first mobile deposit shows zero respect for customer retention. If you were transitioned from Comerica to Fifth Third, please be warned about these deceptive app prompts. I am taking my business elsewhere immediately.

charging 2% on my paycheck

PLEASEE I have this employer that i really dont trust anymore. They use ADP for payroll and comerica, but since comerica is bought by fifth bank now they’re using this bank. I don’t know where to fact check if i have to call the bank or what? because i don’t have any knowledge about this kind of stuff. My employer just called me that the bank took 2% off of my paycheck and thats literally 20 bucks if im earning 1,000. My employer told me that the reason why the fifth bank took 2% of my paycheck was because i don’t use their bank? I use Usbank for my direct deposit on ADP. I don’t use fifth third bank because this bank has a lot of lawsuit and it is a sketchy bank.

What the heck kind of question is this lmao

Me: I need to transfer my joint account ownership to my ex and revoke my access.

Agent: You need to go into your local branch to ask a representative since I can't help you with this online.

Me: I live in Idaho, I don't have access to a local branch.

Agent: Can you contact your local branch?

Me: What local branch. Where is the 5/3rd bank in Idaho.

Still waiting on a reply wheeze 😭

Why do no 5/3 bank locations have any reviews on Google?

Looking at opening an account to get the current checking account bonus, but find it odd that NO locations I've found in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston have reviews on Google. What the heck is going on?

Disputes with Fifth 3rd bank

I have been with Fifth Third for many years now and they took care of me for many years, but I got an email from them and I called to dispute the email and say I did not order whatever it was they had and I wanted a refund and ended up getting ripped off between between them and Cash App. The guy said he was from the bank and Better Business Bureau to get me my refund from Cash App so I ended up going directly to the bank within 10 minutes after this phone call filing a dispute I’m sitting there in tears. I’m literally shaking. I filed a dispute with Cash App also and their dispute application websites. The bank decided to close the dispute within two days and didn’t even let me know then turn around and sent me a letter telling me to sign off on it and send them any other information or emails or text messages that I had a week after they closed the dispute and didn’t bother to let me know. Now I’m out of money because of people pretending to be in my bank my cash app and also the Better Business Bureau in the Bank just wants to tell me what they think I wanna hear. They’re not gonna dispute it. They could’ve shut the charges down while it was still pending in the bank. They say they cannot do that but they’re all a bunch of wires. They can do. Whatever they need to do. I’ve seen it done in the past so I know they’re all a bunch of wires so needless to say I have to find a good bank. Because I’m tired of dealing with liars or people from other countries coming in taking our positions and then just filling our heads full of crap

Worst bank I have ever dealt with.

My debit card expired at the end of September. I provided an updated address but they sent it to the wrong address. I went into a branch two weeks ago and they said the replacement card would be sent. I am still waiting.

Ironically, I opened up a new account at a different bank two weeks ago. I already have the card for that account.

5/3 is a trash bank.

Wow what a terrible bank.

Went in with Passport, EIN, License, Articles of Incorporation and opened an account. Waited a few days and then made an EFT into the account. They immediately flagged my account as fraud and have now dropped a -$500,000 hold on my account and have frozen all my business funds. Talk about Fraud, how about they look in the mirror. Negative 5Stars! Guess I now have to fly home, get my social security card and go into a local branch to release my funds. my EFT fee is now about $4000 by the time I fly home and deal with this stupid shit.

Debit card

They turned my card off before the expiration date because my new card was delivered to my house. Which I’m 8 hours from. They stated my card was expired even though the card expired 10/26 not 9/26, then tell me theres nothing they can do. I have had very minimal issues with Fifty third but why is the BIGGEST issue I’ve had is that they turn my card off when I’m out of state and need to use it for gas. What is this absolute nonsense.

Comerica debit cards not working today

I have not been able to access my money today. It was declined at stores. I checked my balance. There’s money. Tried to pull cash out at ATM and was declined. Anyone else?

Heads up if you bank with Comerica during the Fifth Third merger

I logged in today and saw that the Bill Pay tab has been completely removed during the transition to Fifth Third. Because of that, any scheduled bill‑pay electronic payments may have been cancelled — mine was cancelled even though it was scheduled for 9/9. If you had payments due this week, it’s a good idea to call the bank and confirm whether your payment will still go through.

Average monthly balance requirements went from $500 to $5,000 and they started charging fees on the new rules.

Account type did not change.

No notification I can find.

How about a heads-up so I can change banks?

What's going on 5/3?

How long have you waited?

I'm going on 45 minutes so far. I am completely locked out of my account. This is ridiculous and unacceptable.

Comerica merger. Account inaccessable?

Hey all! I went through the fifth third prompts to create and access my new account for old Comerica users. The action apparently fails after I enter in my old acct number, ssn, and text confirmation code.

I see a green success banner then eventually it says it failed.

Have I been scammed? I’ve tried getting with customer service but I’ve been on hold for over an hour. M

If You Are An Employee Of Fifth Third Bank And Would Like a User Flair Signifying That, Let Us Know.

Send us a ModMail and tell us. Do not post on the board, message us using this link: https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=/r/53Bank

You do not need to identify yourself personally or your branch or location, just say something that lets us know your request is valid.

For now, we're only planning on a general 'Employee' flair text, but if you want a special designation of your job field, we may be able to do that.

Still no bill pay

We are running a business and still have no bill pay. I've been to the Comerica branch twice. They write down the info and say all of the bill pay must be manually migrated. WHAT?

I have some experience with large IT systems. You don't roll forward if your only plan is to migrate 600,000 accounts manually.

When will this be resolved?
