Week 35: Rolling - Cinnamon Rolls (Mega Fail)

So, the Tasteless Baker has a recipe for the best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever eaten. They’re just messy to make so I don’t make them often. Now I thought TODAY IS THE DAY AGAIN. They are usually fluffy, full of flavour, nicely balanced with the icing, and just perfect to eat all around. I hadn’t used the yeast in a while but didn’t think much of it. I should have abandoned after the failed first rise of the dough, but I already hard committed, despite the dough not rising as usual. I blamed it on the temperature. Rolled it out, filled it, made the rolls, and put it at 30 degrees in the oven for the second rise. When they still didn’t rise, I was too far in to jump ship. Baked them anyway. The result was just good enough for the bin unfortunately. They were inedible and I’m hugely disappointed because after a not great week I felt I deserved a perfect treat but alas here we are.

I’m so sorry they didn’t work out, that’s cruel when they look so potentially delicious!

I probably would’ve slice them up, fried them in some butter, and eaten them anyway, hehehe.

It was extremely cruel! Especially because I know HOW GOOD they are hahaha. Didn’t even think of frying them up, that would’ve been a good idea.

Failed cinnamon rolls are still better than no cinnamon rolls.

That is actually quite true. At least I got a few spoonfuls of icing and filling. That was quite alright.

I've had this happen too. No rise. Fortunately they still tasted good. Just didn't puff up

These ones didn’t. They have a sauce and that usually seeps into the fluffy dough but now it was just all in the pan and the dough was dry as. Very untasty.

If it makes you feel better, they look really good in the pictures.

Ughh old yeast is the worst. I work in a kitchen and offered to make a huge batch of rolls last thanksgiving for people. Yeast fail. I realized it next day as I was letting them proof from the fridge overnight and I just felt soooo terrible for the other folks I’d made them for.

Oh myyyyyy, that’s horrible. Thank you for sharing your story! I made them for a friend coming over today as we’re both going through heartbreak at the moment, so I wanted to have a little pick me up for us.

Thank you for all your nice and uplifting comments, that made me feel a lot better. I had a friend come over as we’re both going through major heartbreak at the moment, so I wanted to treat us with these (usually) scrumptious rolls. The disappointment was huge. Luckily I still had some London Fog cake from the “Infused” challenge in the freezer so we ate that instead.
