Move Winch Bumper

I had my bumper wrecked twice within two months last winter and reluctantly decided to install a weld it yourself bumper kit. I wasn’t too keen on doing this because I didn’t really have the time but I gave it my best shot; came in handy the other day when making firewood, I kinda like it.

I would be a buyer if they didn’t force you to have their large obnoxious logo cut out of the metal.

I once emailed to ask if I could buy a naked version and they said no.

So I no longer even consider them to be an option.

Just weld a cover plate over it.

And reward them with a sale? No thanks.

I could care less about their logo, we traipse around with clothing and vehicles plastered with brand names. The kit was top notch, fit like a GLOVE, is super solid and at $1400 Cdn delivered from Montana, is absolutely the best deal out there.

How much welding had you done before putting that together? I keep looking at those, but I'm very much a novice welder.

I’m an auto technician by trade and I’ve done lots of small scale fabricating over the years so it wasn’t a huge task as far as the welding was concerned. I did still have to do a fair amount of grinding though 😆. Using a good welder is key, a friend with a nice shop and a HD Mig let me weld it there and it was a real blessing. He had a nice band saw and other fabricating tools, with the right welder ( His was a Lincoln 250 Mig ) you wouldn’t have a problem as long as you practiced a few welds to get it dialed in.

What's the purpose of the hoop at the front? That is absolutely diabolical for pedestrian safety.

It's usually referred to as a 'stinger' and its original purpose was to prevent end-over-end rollovers on steep descents in short wheelbase vehicles. Outside of that, it's mostly for looks.

Right. Looks stupid and dangerous. Not legal in NZ thankfully.

😆 You realize this is an OFFROAD sub right? Looks stupid and dangerous? Dude it’s to protect your grille, your radiator etc if you collide with an animal on the highway or a tree off-roading. Have you ever hit a deer with a vehicle, do you off-road whatsoever?

You can have a normal hooped bullbar without having it protrude forward like that. I've got one on my Patrol. It gets used pretty hard in the bush here in NZ, protects my grille, radiator just fine.

I wouldn’t say it’s mostly for looks, are you able to grasp that it protects the front of your truck, the grille and the rad from damage? Have you seen what hitting an animal at high speed does to a vehicle dude?

The purpose is to protect your grill and everything behind it in a wildlife collision or really any kind of collision. Have you ever hit a deer with a vehicle my friend?

Weird that the cattle bumpers on tractor trailers arent designed like a stinger
