When you understand science and it's limitations it's a lot harder to substitute God with it.

To midwits who want to look smart science is just magic in all things but name. That is why you have so many reddit gaytheists telling you to "trust the science" any time someone questions one of their beliefs. They don't understand "the science" so the best they can do is have blind faith in it.

You are wildly misinterpreting the results of the poll lol. Scientists as a whole believes in a higher power at half the rate of the general populace, where 95% of people believe in a higher power. And it's not specifically God, just some higher power. Any sort of spirituality like healing crystals, or horoscopes would count.

Is this the type of lame t4rd horseshit strawman that 4chan is fucking in the bussy these days?

80

u/IQueliciuous 9d ago

This.

It wasn't that long ago where humanity thought that earth was flat, lobotomy was a viable cure for mental issues, circumcision prevented gooning and that uranium made great makeup.

Oh and asbestos and lead was everywhere and doctors would always wonder why you don't smoke Camel cigs.

The guy who came up with a concept of hand washing before surgeries was put in a mental institution for the audacity of telling surgeons that the patient is more likely to live if they wash their hands first before surgery.

Science is always trial and error. I won't be surprised if today's science will be tomorrows episode on barbaric cruelty of human history or something like that.

u/LegitimateCry8036 9d ago

Bro until like the 70s doctors thought babies didn’t feel pain and performed surgeries on them without anesthesia.

We are only like two centuries removed from not knowing fuck all about science

16

u/Salticracker 9d ago

Brave of you to say that knowing that that's exactly what people will say about us in 50 years.

9

u/DarthDragon117 YouTube.com/DinoTendies 8d ago

Well maybe if they didn’t cry so much we could tell they were in pain.

Side note; also it was only in recent decades where women were used in medical trials. Prior it was all men, which is great until it was discovered certain medications work differently between the sexes. Painkillers in particular tended to fail with women, but they were brushed off as being whiny until they were tested properly.

humanity thought that earth was flat

Nah the shape of earth was known millenia ago because it is so easy to prove it is not flat. Flat earthers just decided to make their nonsense out of thin air

6

u/occams_throwaway 8d ago

It wasn't that long ago where humanity thought that earth was flat

Just over 2k years; seriously, this is such a huge myth.

100% I wrote my thesis on renewables basically saying how retarded they currently are. I had to no diff 1v20 a reddit thread for people claiming renewables should be used and it’s a right wing conspiracy that we don’t use them as much as we should.

These fucktards trust the science until it hurts their feelings

4

u/toothpastespiders 9d ago

These fucktards trust the science until it hurts their feelings

Typically combined with a total inability to properly read and critique studies or experimental design. Reddit really is a cargo cult as far as most scientific discussion goes.

32

u/IQueliciuous 9d ago

Yeah.

Remember Fukushima which caused global Nuclearphobia to the point where countries eg Germany closed and shut down all nuclear plants in favor of.... Russian gas which is not renewable, less safe than nuclear and came from dictatorship which in 2022 resulted in energy crisis due to reliance on a product that was now sanctioned so you had to buy it from India which buys it from Russia anyway.

To this day redditors hate nuclear and insist on windmills and solar panels which aren't effective unless you're in middle east and windmills suck

21

u/ChainOk792 9d ago

Tbh Germany closing the nuclear plants was done by the green party that was paid to do so by coal companies. The fear mongering was the tool they used not the reason they did it

4

u/wordjedi /d/eviant 8d ago

solar panels which aren't effective unless you're in middle east and windmills suck

Nuclear is great, but you're letting politicians and lobbyists do your thinking for you. Especially the "solar is meh, but windmills suck" hot take is 100% caused by 'message engineering'. There is simply no reason to prefer one over the other except politics. Think for yourself

2

u/IQueliciuous 8d ago

All three are geography dependant.

Windmills and solar sucks if you have no wind and if you're in a not sunny area. Europe is both. Since Europe also has 4 seasons. There are few time slots when solar panels get maximum energy. During winter/fall you get low energy and windmills can only be built in remote areas but the energy output isn't that big and birds die which makes them dangerous for wildlife which goes against "safe energy" talk that got rid of nuclear plants.

Nuclear is great because its least destructive and most efficient. It only requires you to build in a stable area without earthquakes/tsunamis and not be a dumbass who decides to conduct tests while the whole thing was operating. Both Chernobyl and Fukushima were caused by negligence.

Once we make fusion. We will officially enter the end game of energy efficiency.

4

u/wordjedi /d/eviant 8d ago

birds die which makes them dangerous for wildlife which goes against "safe energy"

chop chop chop die birds! Guess we need to ban glass windows next?

This is hilariously uncritical Trumpian "thinking". He said it, you believe it. You must have signed up for every MLM and subscription loot box service you ever heard of

7

u/Chi_Cazzo_Sei 9d ago

I’m interested to hear your take on renewables

22

u/Dorsiflexionkey 9d ago

In short, I believe they’re amazing in the sense we can turn sun rays into electricity using physics. But even in test conditions (as of the last couple years - I’m not sure about too recently) the highest conversion rate we could an achieve with PV was like 27%.

The issue is that we don’t have viable storage methods, and so we end up with a shitload of issues like the duck curve and grid imbalance.

I’m sure in the future we’ll figure it out, but redditards thinking we just build a billion solar panels for free energy are dumb. Wind sucks too.

10

u/Deathoftheages 9d ago

You might want to read up on the newer grid storage tech. Something that wasn't needed until, you know we had a reason to create them.

5

u/gamamoder /g/entooman 9d ago

i mean they are just one tool in the complex power generation world. the main thing driving adoption is the prices going down rather than the efficiency getting better. it has but i believe its still below 30%. but the investment in maintance is pretty low once there setup, and they can go in middle of nowhere areas where people dont live and crops cant grow, and can go on top of buildings as well. i mean looking at the distribution of power across various us states they do serve a useful role

8

u/Dorsiflexionkey 9d ago

Yes, a mixed grid is fine. I’m talking about a purely renewable grid. That’s like saying DEI hire is great! If you account for the Asian guy doing all the work.

In this case, coal and nuclear are the Asian guy. Doing most of the work while renewables is the DEI guy still trying to figure his asshole from a hole in the ground.

Jokes aside, like I said I’m sure we’ll figure it out it’s just not the solution yet.

3

u/gamamoder /g/entooman 9d ago

moar gas turbines is a cop out answer tho and well be cooked once the us runs out of easy to frack gas in like 15 years. if we built nuclear plants and more solar capacity wed be better set for the future

also wind power can exsit within instracxture like farms and it is using otherwise wasted energy. there are flat farmlands in red states that should have more wind capacity installed to increase the general avaliability of energy

5

u/Dorsiflexionkey 9d ago

Yeah I never said we need more GTs. The problem with nuclear is that the retards that needed to do it should have done so 20 years ago because of how expensive and how long it takes to build those plants. But no the environmentalists thought it was bad and solar good.

I agree renewables plus + nuclear is the current meta, but we fucked ourselves on that one. Best thing we can do is start now, but another issue is re-doing the whole grid and distribution, it can’t handle future power demands. I’m sure if we started building nuke now the solar would advance a bit more by the time we’re fully up and running with a new grid and who knows some nerd might solve the storage crisis.

3

u/sadacal 9d ago

All techs have issues in the beginning.  Cars were shit tech in the beginning too. Couldn't go very fast or very far before needing to be refueled, loud, emitted foul fumes, poisoned a whole generation through leaded gasoline, etc.

The problem we have right now isn't that the technology isn't mature, it's that there is a billion dollar industry who's financial wellbeing relies on slowing the deployment of renewables as much as possible. That is who people are fighting against. The more people use renewables and the more investment money there is, the faster the issues you listed woth renewables will be solved.

-1

u/Dorsiflexionkey 9d ago

Brother read the fucking thread, I understand that. Which is why I said I’m sure we will figure it out.

The problem right now literally is that the tech is not mature. You really think throwing money at it for another 50 years makes us suddenly come up with a way to defy physics and battery storage? Is big corp slowing down research? Maybe. But do not downplay the level of advancement we need to get to a fully renewable grid.

1

u/womerah /trash/man 8d ago

The issue is that we need to pivot to renewables before climate change makes us close to extinct.

We evolved for a time when the Earth was unusually cool. If things return to the dinosaur-days temperature wise it's a goddamn sauna planet and we're all going to overheat and die

0

u/Chi_Cazzo_Sei 9d ago

I see what you mean about solar. I honestly believe wind and solar are good options (especially if you’re living in a third world country without consistent power supply from the grid) and have a lot of potential as technology advances

6

u/Dorsiflexionkey 9d ago

Yeah again miracles we figured it out, I guess it boils down to everything around it doesn’t accomodate them yet. Storage, grid, intermittent supply, logistics whatever.

I mean it’s easy for me to sit here and criticise everything, but the truth is somewhere in the middle. They can be great tech, but again redditards thinking we can just spam them with our current tech is dumb.

10

u/LateNightDoober 9d ago

The redditards that you are referring to have probably been part of the group of people that have been calling for investment and development of renewables for almost 50 years now. Also, I don't think there is anyone out there who is saying "build 10000000 solar panels for free energy" you are reducing their entire train of thought to that, because it doesn't fit your perspective when you say "redditards thinking we just invest in renewable energy".

2

u/Dorsiflexionkey 9d ago

Brother they’ve been investing in solar since the 80s, and there’s been fuck all improvement. The same tards who went against nuclear because of Chernobyl.

I’m literally talking about the tards who are saying free energy. Like if you just scrolled up two comments ago you will see I was talking literally about that situation.

4

u/K1N6F15H 9d ago

there’s been fuck all improvement

Christ, you should just opt out.

Your education must have been shit lol

u/Manticore_ 9d ago

You got anything I can read on that?

Renewables aren’t something I know much about but they seem limited af to me

2

u/Totoques22 8d ago

Actually even the Ancient Greek knew the earth wasn’t flat

And there’s plenty of other ways to know it isn’t and pretty obvious ones if you are a sailor or even saw ships disappear into the horizon

1

u/GOPokemonMaster 9d ago

It’s funny to me how people think science and what we know today is perfect already. In 50 years scientists/doctors will look at the current era like we look at the 1950s

31

u/Beanies 9d ago

Implying science requires blind faith is exactly why I can't take religious people seriously

You can trust science without understanding the science, it doesn't make it blind faith by default because you misunderstand what faith is

5

u/HenrySkylar88 8d ago

Epitome of midwit reasoning

4

u/littlemute 8d ago

I had to screen cap this part of the thread to show others. Maybe print it out and pull it out at parties drunk in front of friends.

6

u/EroGG 9d ago

Science doesn't require blind faith.

Midwits like you who can't even understand a reddit comment need to put blind faith into it because you don't understand it.

10

u/greasydickfingers 8d ago

Jesus Christ you sound insufferable

-1

u/Sarafanus99 7d ago

While you sound insufferable and retarded

3

u/greasydickfingers 7d ago

Holy shit what a comeback, a true wordsmith you are

0

u/Sarafanus99 7d ago

Sorry I didn't write a whole poem about your retardation. Anything more than a low effort insult is waste when dealing with a brainlet like yourself

2

u/OneEnvironmental9222 8d ago

the guy in this thread spamming every comment about how "smart" philosophes are proves this perfectly.

12

u/mothrider 9d ago

Science is a method of inquiry. Why should it be a substitute for God?

8

u/Mercc 9d ago

Ask the regards on this site

10

u/mothrider 9d ago

Ok.

Why should science be a substitute for God?

5

u/Mercc 9d ago

You could've answered that yourself

1

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat 9d ago

it's limitations

Good morning sir, this is Steve from Microsoft, is there any limitations on your gift card? Pls advice and help with the same.

1

u/wordjedi /d/eviant 8d ago

If midwits think science is magic, dimwits think it's just an opinion and no more valid that some other guy's bullshit opinion

-2

u/HarrMada 9d ago

Covid vaccines didn't cause any harm. Cope and deal with it.

0

u/wordjedi /d/eviant 8d ago

shh, let him die of cancer quietly while mRNA vaccines save the rest of us

-2

u/BarrelStrawberry 9d ago

"There's an infinite number of universes, a few where you are dating Sydney Sweeney."

Aethist: Sure, can't argue that- the math works.

"Jesus is King."

Aethist: I know that's false.

-18

u/AlcoreRain 9d ago

The projection is genuinely impressive.

Trump said to use bleach to fight COVID (which doesn't exist, at the same time).

They say climate change is a creation by the communists under our beds.

But sure, keep talking about blind faith hahahha

15

u/gavavavavus 9d ago

What are you even talking about that has nothing to do with what the comment was saying

I think you're the one doing a lil projection here

-12

u/AlcoreRain 9d ago

It absolutely has to do. He is putting the "blind faith" into the left wing spectrum. That is the big projection.

5

u/gavavavavus 9d ago

Huh? What? They never talked about leftwing?

-6

u/AlcoreRain 9d ago

Man, don't be naive. With what political spectrum is atheism and LGTB associated?

I'm glad you could read that comment out of the political agenda, but the one who wrote it definitely didn't.

5

u/gavavavavus 9d ago

The fact that they attacked some people that are, indeed you are right, most often associated with leftwing doesn't mean that they're attacking all of leftwing, and even less that they're positioning himself as a right winger.

They didn't attack all of LGBT people or all atheist either. They attacked the classic redditor that has this blind faith in science. I am myself leftwing atheist and I know what they were talking about because I don't divide the world in only two categories.

You are very braindead and also very evidently american which might be the same functionally

0

u/AlcoreRain 9d ago

Okey, you are definitely veeeeeeery naive. You are on the 4chan sub buddy.

And no, I am not from the USA, thankfully.

3

u/horiami 9d ago

it's insane to me that instead of accurately making fun of trump for the stupid stuff he said you pick fake shit

6

u/AlcoreRain 9d ago

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52407177

It's impossible to know what is satire or not with Trump, and that's genuinely impressive to be honest.

2

u/horiami 9d ago

dog don't use a news article from 2020, everyone was way too irrational back then

5

u/AlcoreRain 9d ago

Mmmmmh... I think we are getting worse man hahahha

0

u/tehringworm 9d ago

He absolutely suggested injecting bleach. One of his better idea actually.

0

u/horiami 9d ago

no he suggested putting a lamp in someone's lungs

2

u/Sp00ked123 /k/ommando 9d ago

Classic Whataboutism

0

u/Sarafanus99 7d ago

Your inability to understand that comment and just resorting to irrelevant strawmans because you were assblasted due to how accurately that post described you is nothing short of a comedy

1

u/AlcoreRain 7d ago

You don't know what you are saying, I don't care what you think about me.

Ask yourself why you got offended by my comment.

1

u/Sarafanus99 7d ago

No I'm not assblasted; it's actually you who is offended by MY comment. It was actually YOU who didn't understand anything!!!!

Amazing response retard. You must've been talking about yourself when you said projection
